Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
Like the title says, these are some of my poems I have written in the past/and or ones I'm writing now. Enjoy.
First one, a bit dark. I hope you enjoy nontheless, though I did warn you. The rhythm pattern is also a bit off...but just in time for halloween! Long ago, I used to know, of a little old village named Bree, And on a hill, scraggly and strange, lay the hanging tree, I used to play, and laugh with friends, but never around that spot, For around its whispering branches, is where my father was shot, I would see the moonlight loom, over the branches bare, I’ll never forget Danny, who disappeared after that dare, I told him not to go, but in the night he went, To carve his initials in the bark, that's the reason he was sent. One by one they left, why I could never see, One by one they escaped, the wrath of the hanging tree, Soon in the lonely town, I was the only one near, I began to hear the voices echoing in my ear, “Why do you plague me?” I used to shout and scream, “Why don’t you leave?” But no answer I could deem, I found no rest at night, I could not eat or sleep, I began to see my fears; my sanity struggled to keep, Finally I figured out, what I must do to be free, So with a rope in hand, I walked to the hanging tree. The wind whipped, the lightning flashed, I knew there was no going back, I let it go, my torment ended, with a simple crack. The town stayed quiet, until it was built, a building on a hill, The wind used to blow; it used to be safe, now it’s deathly still, You’ll never know the old gray oak that sits beyond the door That is the same old branch, that remains forevermore, That figure, yes, that shadow, that watches you all day, That gives you feelings of nervousness, in each and every way. If you should ever feel, a need to look for me, Just come, and meet that figure, beneath the hanging tree… |

Oh my, I really enjoyed that. Like you said, the rhyming was a tiny bit off, but it is an excellent story that really goes good with the Halloween spirit. I enjoyed the imagery as well, the hanging tree, the thoughts and ideas you had, very well done.
I'm interested in seeing more. -NC

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
Thank you, NobleCucco. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think I shall post a few of my zelda poems I had created a while ago. Enjoy, though they are older works. I'm mostly freeform with a lot of these, but I like to expirement. First, the horror category, just to get it over with.
First, a few scratches about what Link might have thought in the shadow temple. Enemies in Shadow Here in the temple, I feel I’m in the night, The shadows creep and crawl, I hear noises too, I feel more depression, like I just can’t fight, Something is stirring, though I don’t know what or who. Here I feel death, dwelling on my soul, Now I’m unsure, I’m starting to fear, I’m enveloped in the night, as blackened as coal, There are screams and shrieks, I’m sure I can hear. There is no warmth or light, all that is gone, The skulls decorate the cold, gray stone, I feel as if I never again may face the dawn, Besides my fairy, I am alone. The moaning in the background, is always the same, I dread the next room, if only I could stay, I only pray to hear a living soul call my name; Instead I smell the stench of decay. I feel as if I have no hope, and only death exists, The guillotines threaten to slice off my head, If I don’t come back, I wonder, will I be missed, When anyone finds me, I’ll already be dead… Next, a little ditty about Dark Link and Link facing each other. Myself I face, a reflection. He is I, and I am he, There is no other, there is only me, How can he exist, I just cannot see, Myself I face, a reflection. I am watching those eyes, glowing red, There’s so much in me that wants to be said, He’s just like me, from his feet to his head, Myself I face, a reflection. I cannot help it; I just can't go back, I just can’t help it, I cannot attack, It cannot be courage, what do I lack? Myself I face, a reflection. As I look over him, my mind fills with Why’s, When they told me it was easy, it was all lies, I see regret and remorse when I look into his eyes, Myself I face, a reflection. Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
OOC: Definetely long enough of a wait, dont' you think? Let's give you some of my best ones from those Zelda fun. Rhyming can be a bit off, as these are early works, but I consider them to be cute anyway.
Too Many Girls for Me If I run into one, then I run into two, I tell you girls, I don’t know what to do, I realized a fact I never really knew, I know there’s only one of me, and too many of you! I’m just a young guy; I’m just a young man, I’m not a miracle worker; I do what I can, I’m seeing double now, three, four, five, six, I’m wondering if this is a problem I can fix. You surround me and look at me as if I’ve done a crime, You know I will save you time after time, You know whether your hair is green, blonde or red, You will follow me and hound me until I’m dead. There’s no way I can choose, there’s no way I can know, There’s no way I can respond to the feelings that you show, There’s only one thing that I really can say, If you’re a handsome hero, there’s a price to pay! Stop! Look! Listen! “Stop! Look! Listen!” Is all she ever yells, About the enemies’ weaknesses is all she ever tells, I get a splitting headache, every time I hear, Her little tiny voice shrieking in my ear, She treats me like I’m stupid, like I just can’t see, Oh, why oh why did she get assigned to me? Of course we go there, do this, do that, And when she’s done bugging me she flies into my hat, Why can’t you leave me alone, just please fly away, Then I won’t have to listen to your incessant “Hey!” When we go fishing, why you just wait, Don’t worry Navi, I know what we’ll use for bait… Cheeziness galore in this next one. << Just a warning. A Rose in the Garden The garden was layered, overflowing with green, It was unlike anything I had ever seen, As I entered, a sweet smell filled my nose, It wafted itself in all of my clothes, The flowers were innumerable, too many to see, It was like heaven, it truly amazed me, That’s when I saw it, the petals so bright, Her beauty reflected in the sparkling light, The rose in the garden, standing out alone, The sunlight shimmered, and off her dress shone, The rose in the garden, standing off to the side, If I said I wasn’t in love, I would have lied, The rose in the garden, with flowing blonde hair, She was the only thing that I noticed there, The rose in the garden, sent from above, Zelda, the only one I would ever love. |

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
If I Were Only Human
I see him flirt and save countless others, I feel bad, for he has no sisters or brothers, The first day I saw him, I don’t really know why, I told him he was lazy, but that was a lie, He was our hope, the hero of time, I promised to assist him through all of the grime, I helped through the temples, and gave him hints too, Together there was nothing that we could not do, We defeated the evil and brought a new reign of good, He was never even selfish; he did what he should, We met up with the princess, and beauty so rare, My wings began to droop at the sight of her there, She was so lovely, and a human as well, She was the one he loved, that I could tell, I knew she was Sheik from the very start, I could feel it in the pits of my tiny fairy heart, As they stared at each other, I felt something new, I felt jealous, and figured out just what to do, He could never love me, and I didn’t have a chance, My little soul throbbed, as his eyes began to dance, As we entered the temple we knew so well, My voice whispered softly, like the ring of a bell, “Goodbye…” I said, so he could not hear, I hovered above him, tickling his ear, Then turning away, I flew into the light, And to this day I wonder, was what I did right? My Plans Never Work I created a phantom, to stop this boy, But he defeated it, as if it were a toy, I revived a dragon, brought up from hell’s pits, But he found this hammer, and smashed it to bits, I brought water to life, as he started to swim, But that sure didn’t work; he brought it over to him, I tried a drumming monster, that he couldn’t see, But he found a lens of truth, and figured out the key, I finally tried the witches, but like a ball and a bat, He absorbed their attack; there goes my insurance on that, I tried mini-bosses, but he won through it all, So I decided it was my duty to take up the call, I finally faced him, with no one else but me, That’s why I’m waiting here, longing to be free, I wait in the sacred realm, in here I lurk, I have but one complaint, my plans never work! Die again I won’t die again. Again, and again, even in my dreams. I see your face; do you try to tell me? I can’t listen, the thumping is too loud. I’m going to keep this secret. I’m going to close my mind against you. Twisting, turning, I can’t decide what to say. I’m going to break all of the set standards. I’m going to close my mind. I’m going to find another way, I won’t die again. I’m going to close my mind. I won’t die again. |

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
I love this poem. It makes me feel very emotional with its' symbolism.
“Sleeping” What would you do? If you woke up, and one day you were sleeping. How would you react? If you looked, and saw you were sleeping. Your eyes, they torture me, your face, haunts my visions, so I’m sleeping. Would your friends react? If they would notice you sleeping. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, and forevermore. Do you see me here? Lying on your floor, I’m sleeping. These crimson streams you see, they’re only dreams I’m dreaming. These empty plastic bottles, they hold the last of my hopes. Would you remember my name? Whisper it to me as I’m sleeping. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, and forevermore. Is it that you miss me? Would you miss me now that I’m sleeping? Did you hear me scream, or was it just my silence? When you stare at me, I’ll know you wished I was awake. How does it feel? To know that you’re the reason I’m sleeping. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, sleeping deep. I’m sleeping now, and forevermore. I’m sleeping here, resting here, forever. I’m sleeping. “Acid.” Your touch makes my skin crawl, you whisper these words. Love me, you say. Love me, you say. Have you ever felt this? Do you torture me inside? Acid, like raindrops, your tears burn my heart away. This is what I’m feeling, this is why I long. This pain I feel, the agony of your words, they mean nothing to me anymore. You wish for it to end, you see it in my eyes. Love me, you say. Love me, you say. Have you ever felt this? Do you torture me inside? Acid, like raindrops, your tears burn my heart away. Darkness and tossing, your face in my reflection. Cutting these letters, that used to mean so much. Do you sense my needs that have faded into the mournful cries? Silent words that echo in my lips, I feel your lust. Love me, you say. Love me, you say. Have you ever felt like this? Do you torture me inside? Acid, like raindrops, your tears burn my heart away. |

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
So I stumbled upon this thread and decided to give it a look. ^^ As I'm very tired, I'd rather not spend *too* much time on a review, so I only read the first poem: Beneath the Hanging Tree.
One phrase comes to mind, although perhaps cliche. Delightfully twisted. It's dark and forbidding, yet somehow inviting. You can feel the narrator's resolution bleeding through the text when she hangs herself, as if she is no longer afraid and knows precisely what must be done. (Assuming it's a "she".) I can't help wondering what drives her to madness, though. Is it the loss of loved ones? Perhaps the tree itself has a maddening effect on her, or could it possess some supernatural power? A wonderful piece with more than enough mystery to keep it interesting. ^^ The overly formulaic punctuation makes it feel a little awkward, but other than that, a very entertaining poem.

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
With regards to your first poem, I thought that the word "I" was used a little too much even though it is a first person perspective. Although, the rhythm was nice and the rhymes had a certain quality to them and the overall theme was most enjoyable.
Great word Sakume |

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
I Knew The whole time… I knew. I didn’t say anything, hoping, dreaming, but I knew. I knew it would happen, and I didn’t say no. Is it my sacrifice, or my foolish hope? I knew. My heart isn’t broken, but I wish it was. I hurt so deeply, and there were all right. Their laughter is here, and I can only cry. Cry silently as I wallow in my pity. You knew, too, didn’t you? That truth we knew. What was it I felt? How can it be wrong? It would work, they say. Well, they were all wrong. Now, I sit here, crying silently. Alone and dejected, I wonder what I should do. Will I ever love again? Should I try? I don’t know. So much pain of the world I try to take… Is it wise? Please be happy with her. Please make her happy. Please remember me. As we used to be… When we were happy. I’ll watch you from the dark, I’ll stand in the crowd. You won’t see me, but I’ll be watching. This whole time… I knew. |

Re: Sakume's drabbles in poetry~
Okay people. This is important. My first song I ever wrote. The tune is constant, and sounds sort of country. This song means a lot to me.
Well I’m sittin’ at the table and it’s dinnertime, My family is wonderin’ if I’m alright, I haven’t eaten anything, but it’s okay, No one seemed to notice anyway, My mind says, “Don’t worry, you’ll be just fine, All you need now is a little bit of wine.” Red river, flow red river, Red river won’t you take my troubles away, Red river, flow red river, Red river please make me happy again… Well it’s been a few years, and I’m doin’ pretty bad, I don’t know why, but I’m really kinda sad, I’m sittin’ in a bar at the edge of town, My waiter wants to clear my soul of this frown, He’s sayin’ “Don’t worry, you’ll be just fine, All you need now is a little more wine.” Red river, flow red river, Red river won’t you take my troubles away, Red river, flow red river, Red river please make me happy again… Now I’m sitting here, writing this song, Warning you all not to follow my wrong, You see, I’ve been drinking for eternity, Praying that this river may choose to help me, And I never thought it would be this way, I guess I’ll keep drinking down yesterday… Red river, flow red river, Red river I know you don’t take the pain, Red river, flow red river, Red river, there’s nothing left to gain. Now I’m thinkin’ back to where it all began, My first little taste in the back of that van, My friends were all trying, and I said "Mhm," And I took the final step in that hotel room, I licked my lips and said, “I’m crossin’ that line, Grab me a glass and pour some more wine.” This red river flows for all eternity… This red river, haunts me in all I see… This red river, won’t stop flowing, flowing here, this red river, represents all I fear. Red river, flow red river, Red river, you repeat all he’s said, Red river, flow red river, Red river, you flow over me and I’m dead. |
