Here's my first one, I call it

Story of Skullkid

One time, when I was all alone,
I encountered two friends, And their bodies shone,
Brightly against the darkness of that hollow fallen trunk
I'll admit it, my life had sunk.

Once I had friends,
I thought it'd never end.
But sadly, they had left me,
for the Swamp, the Mountains,
The Canyon, and the Sea.

I was angry, I'll admit.
All I intended was a bit
of chaos, and the rare prank.
My friends then, became frank.

'Why do you cause havoc,
why do you cause this pain?'
When no reply I gave, this is what They said:
'Do this thing again,
And you will wind up DEAD!'

This had broken my heart,
For I'd found out, long ago
Only playing pranks on others,
would cause my friends to show.

But I had met new friends,
And they were kind to me.
Playing out in the field,
were we, the Three.

One day I had come across,
A merchant, traveling.
To a land I'd seen once before,
The land of the Kokiri.

I was curious, I'll admit
'What were his wares?'
So I sent my friends to tell him
That I would soon be there.

I guess they must have shocked him,
For he was on the ground.
I checked what wares he had,
And this is what I'd found.

A colorful mask,
It was a pretty thing,
As I gazed upon it,
In my mind it seemed to sing:

'Put me on, Put me on,
I'll give you what you wish.
Fame, power, glory?
Maybe some very rare fish?'

I looked on it and said,
'Friends are all I have!'
This was a mistake,
For the mask then replied,
'Then more friends you will make!'


Sorry, it was my first attempt at a completely, just thought up poem. It's supposed to show Skullkid's perspective of the situation, and a vague idea on why he'd put the mask on.

Please, tell me your opinions...

Bravo, encore, and all that junk. It was very good. I've never been a poem guy, but this was very interesting. Interesting enough to keep my attention.

I'm planning on going into a VGM (Video Game Maker) career, and am trying to make prophetic 'poems' for a story that one of the games I plan to make:

The Prophecy

To the Reader:

Stand on land, where there is none.
During a day, without a Sun.
When the Water, bursts in Flame.
You shall know then, why you came.

Chosen One

To The One:

Thou hast, finally come.
To the spot, where it begun.
Years back, many knights,
Have met their doom, for the people's plights.

Those who died, had shed their blood,
All in vain, for it was done.
The war, that had claimed many lives,
Had failed, the Demon, to excise.

For he is free, and time has come,
For his freedom, to be undone.
The task is to you, Chosen one,
For that last Knight, you are his Son.

Sounds too much like the Seal War, eh?

I thought your Skull Kid poem was great. I don't have much of an interest in poetry, but I liked reading that one. It wasn't pretentious, it wasn't a bunch of fancy words with little substance, it was straightforward, heartfelt, and convincing. It sounded like it came from Skull Kid. I like the style you used.

Great way to put it. I agree with the motive: he wanted to wear the scary mask and pull some more pranks so that the Giants would return. But the demon in the mask preyed on all his weaknesses and the situation got wildly out of hand. Ultimately, Majora held so much sway over Skull Kid that he feared the Giants' return.

The only thing I'd change would be that the Salesman was attacked by Skull Kid, not startled by the fairies. The mask lured him to do that act, in the same way the Ring lured Boromir in The Lord of the Rings. I don't think the Skull Kid should be free of guilt: I think it's fitting that an evil act was the impetus that finally brought on the fated apocalypse.

Those poems are good, just make sure the meaning doesn't get too convoluted. Your target audience I assume won't have the patience to read a passage repeatedly just to understand the hints or information it gives. I think those prophetic poems are usually pretty straightforward and written in a simple but elegant style. You have the right style, I think, just be careful to keep the meaning clear.

I wasn't originally trying to exempt Skullkid when I wrote it. I was looking back as to how Link was 'attacked', and I found an interesting bit of information.

Skullkid didn't even show himself until Link had already fainted, so I thought that was the tactic he used.

I was actually feeling a bit like Skullkid as it were when I wrote this, so that definitely contributed to it...
