Been a while, I might be rusty
Well, I used to come here to write a lot, but I kinda stopped and want to give it a shot again. Give me your best.
![]() Ode to the Grafitti As I walk the cobbled way With hopes and dreams of yesterday I see on the wall beside me The gun toting Statue of Liberty Spray painted on a wall Sitting silent in this cobbled hall Asking me for a moment To think of this nation's components Back in my room I lay in bed Thinking of what I had seen and read Wondering if I'm the only one Who isn't sure about what we have done But finally I fall asleep With a beautiful girl we lay in a heap Then we keep going every day Whether we are right or wrong in our way (That's based off of actual graffiti in Iowa City by the way. They used to be all over the place.) Ode to Insomniacs It's sunny outside while I'm fast asleep Too busy for friends, I'm counting sheep I was up too late last Friday night Now I'm paying for it by losing daylight How I wish I could stay in bed Sadly, if I do my limbs would go dead Then I couldn't type words As light as the birds And I might catch pneumonia and die (Okay, I'm a little tired and gave up at the end) ![]()

Re: Been a while, I might be rusty
regarding Ode to Grafitti:
i think this was pretty good. i find it interesting that you decided to use a AABB rhyme scheme. it lends the whole poem an air of juvenility that seems a bit odd, if not wholly misplaced with such subject matter as introspection and national guilt. furthermore, the last stanza seems rather disconnected from the rest of the poem. i also have a question. is the title meant to be sarcastic? i mean, at first, it seems the speaker is affected in some way by the grafitti, so an ode to the image would make sense. the last stanza, however, proves the grafitti made no lasting impression on the speaker whatsoever. so why an ode? overall: interesting choice of subject matter. fairly well executed. |
