Terramar [ pg-13 ] [ sf ]

This is something I have had in my mind for a couple of months. I have tried to make up a good and unique story for a while and this seems like it. The ENTIRE story is very interesting. I told the entire storyline to people and it got all good responses. I am writing this as if it were a novel, and a good one. If there are comments saying that it is bad in any way, I probably will try to fix it.

All I can say right now about the story is they are on a planet called "Terramar"

Plus, if I type things wrong, note it out for me, because I'll fix it.

Terramar

Chapter I

I was merely a teenager. I was just living with my mother and father in a small village. My parents were okay. They may have argued sometimes, but what couple doesn’t?
I lived in a more rural place than others. We protected ourselves well. Everyone by at least teenager age knew how to handle a gun. You really had to. I mean, with all the other savage animals and all. We were strong. We were brave.
One of the many things I loved to do with my father was hunting. We hunted meat for cooking. Some may be able to buy meat at markets, but that is a city thing. We go into the mountains and hunt anything we can eat.
Me and my father were hunting one day. It was winter, so it was cold as always. The snow stalked me and my father and the wind was its friend. We tried to walk quietly so we could get an easy kill.
By us were many trees. We were in a forest with streams, rivers, and all of that other stuff. This forest was in a flat area with a mountain range by it. By my eyes it was about 2:00P.M. We still had plenty time to hunt before night rolls in.
My father and I walked as quickly as we can without making much noise. The obstacles around us gave us protection and hiding. It was kind of hard to hunt with the snow blowing on us.
There was a group of bushes. We crouched in front of it. We peeped through the bushes to find anything. There was a family of deer. A giant buck with dangerous antlers that could easily kill us, his mate, and two children. They didn’t even grow their antlers yet. The children ate grass. The dove was walking around, and the buck was on the lookout. Hopefully we wouldn’t be spotted by him.
My father tapped my shoulder with his arm. “Good looking buck right there. Eh? I‘ll take this buck out.” He whispered. He put the gum up in his arms, looked into the scope, and aimed right at the buck. There was a pitch of silence for a couple of seconds, then dad shot the buck. It went down and was dead. The dove and her children ran as fast as they could. A flock of birds were so startled they flew away into the air.
“Hahaha! Look at that buck. An extra big one too.” My father said with happiness.
“Yeah! That will be good cooked.” I replied.
We walked toward the dead buck and looked at it.
“Okay! Lets take care of this thing.”
And so we did. We let the blood drain, gutted it, and all that stuff.
It was about an hour later. We were still in the forest walking by a steadily moving river that lead to a tiny waterfall. The snow was still falling, but not as bad as an hour ago when my dad shot the buck. We talked about things while walking.
We reached the tiny waterfall. On ground, it there was a very tiny cliff. About half my size. I jumped down, then my dad jumped down. The dead buck was still in our grasp. We continued to walk on the rocks. We figured that we could chat without worrying about any animals trying to kill and eat us. We have been in the forest many times considering we hunt our food there. We were about five minutes away from home. I knew it and my father knew it. Savage animals killing and eating one of us is an unfortunate death. Hopefully I’ll never die like that.
My father stopped suddenly. I turned to him.
“What is it dad?” I asked to my father.
“I heard that noise again… That thing is strange… I’ve been hearing this noise for a while.” my father said.
“I didn’t hear it”
“Well I did.” He said with some anger in his tone.
He started to run as fast as he can with us carrying the gutted so I ran with him. We ran for maybe fifteen seconds. He then accidentally slipped on one of the snowy rocks and fell.
“Aah! Dang slippery rock.” My father said with anger.
A loud yell was screamed by some beast in the woods. A creature ran out. I’ve hears of this beast. I knew what it looked like from painting of these. They are carnivorous creatures with big fangs. Its fur is as white as the clouds with definitely a lot of fur. It looked almost as big as me at that time, so I would say it was six feet tall which makes it’s species one of the tallest in the world.
I grabbed my gun and shot it. It fell and immediately died. A bunch of creatures of the same species ran out. I knew there were too much, so all I could do is run as fast as I can. I looked back, and saw my father stand up, then I looked ahead. I couldn’t look back.
A couple minutes later I ran out of the woods into the open plains where the town was. I didn’t stop through the whole run to my house. I stopped to rest breathing hard. My mother walked out in a fast pace to me. She was wearing an apron. Figured she was cleaning the house. She had a very serious expression on her face.
“What the hell happened Isobu” She asked, with strong anger yelling at me.
“I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know son? I heard that scream from here, then you come running without your father looking like you witnessed a murder.”
“I did witness a murder.”
She stood in scilence and so did I for a couple a second or two. “I can’t believe this happened.” She replied.
“Believe it mom.”
She sighed and rubbed her forehead looking down on the snowy grass, then stood her head up and put the palms of her hand on her mouth. I walked quickly into my house.
A day passed. I walked into the backyard and looked into the woods from the porch. Every day for four days I looked to the forest from the porch hoping he would maybe be alive, but really, I knew he was dead inside, but there seems to be some thing inside me sometimes that gives me hope for the hopeless.
Skip ahead a portion of my life. I am now an adult. My life has been different since the past. The town I used to live in was down south. We were far from the capital of our nation. The capital lived more luxurious than us country folks, but due to my father’s death, and my, still, kind of young age we weren’t as strong. Mother and I moved up north to the capital. It was kind of sad to leave to me, not only because we weren’t as strong without my father, but also I had life long friends there.
I remember school. It was there for us if we wanted to move. There were twenty-five kids in my school. We knew everybody. I had three friends since the beginning of school and then I went away.
I remember the day of me and my mother leaving from my home town. We had a small carriage that only fit what was truly frequent on the carriage. Me, my mother, my father, and storage for essentials. We owned four horses. The people of the village gave us meat for the trip as a gift.
My mother started the carriage and we rode away going down from a not very steep hill on a road made of dirt. I looked back at the village seeing it’s seventeen houses. That would be the last time I looked at the village for many, many years.
We traveled through mountains, plains and forests. My mother and I saw waterfalls, and many things.
One time we were on a rocky mountain. The road seemed narrow, but it was just big enough for the horses to travel. Right by us was a steep cliff than ran into a flat plain. It was currently the beginning of spring at the time. The clouds were there, but there was still some openings for sunlight glistening upon the land. It was a nice sight to be honest.
When we were riding along then suddenly a horse slipped. My mother stopped the carriage. It yelled it’s noise, but didn’t fall. Rocks fell down the cliff. We checked the horse. It was okay. So we trekked on in the carriage. I saw a black eagle flying in the air. It was probably started due to the noise the horse made.
Days later we were riding in the plains that were by the rocky mountains. It was snowing. The snow covered the land like a blanket. Another carriage passed us a man in there. He must be traveling to one of the villages. Villages are scattered throughout the entire nation. They range from populations of thirty to five-hundred.
Days later we were still in the plains. The snow stopped a while ago. There was still little bits of snow on the ground with the tops of the mountains still looking very white. That night my mother and I were sitting outside on the grass. I collected kindling from what little trees were on the plains to make a fire and my mom cooked the meat over it.
The day after it was morning time, but almost noon too. I was dreaming while sitting in the carriage while my mother was driving. The road wasn’t too bumpy, so I was able to sleep well. My arms were criss-crossed. I felt a bump bring forced on my shoulder. My mother bumped my shoulder.
“Wake up boy.” I heard.
My eyes opened from that dream. I groaned and itched the top of my head. I looked out and noticed we were in the city. We were in the city of Zay. The capital of our nation. I saw markets with food and valuables. Some have probably been everywhere they can in the nation. We were riding in the lower class of the city. The upper class and the capital building was half a mile away. Many people who have traveled from far away places come here. There are other cities, but this is the biggest in the nation.
After a little bit we stopped the carriage at our new house. It was made of wood. The other homes by us were also made of wood. They didn’t look too fancy, unlike the upper class housing.
I walked out on the dry stone road as the sun glistened through the clouds. I went to the back of the carriage and grabbed my bag with all of my clothes in it. I walked up to the house and opened the door. Pretty much, the dining room and living room were in one room with an arched opening that went into the kitchen. We had a couch and a fireplace. By the fireplace was a door that lead to the bathroom, then to the other side of the fireplace were two doors that lead to the two bedrooms that me and my mom would live.
I took a moment of silence then walked to the bedroom with the twin sized bedroom. I dropped my bag down, walked to my bed, and sat down. I thought of my dad’s death, then I laid down on the bed on my back with my arms criss-crossed. Just staring at the ceiling, thinking of nothing.
I turned on my belly and crawled over the top of my bed, looking at the entire city. The house was the top of a slope which gave me a lookout for the rest of the city. It was kind of impressive really. The lower class buildings turned to pretty nice looking buildings as it went down.
Since those years have passed I didn’t feel right living in the city. I lived in that village for my whole life until then. The city just isn’t my thing. I moved a couple miles out of Zay. My home is in a flat area where a forest is near. The house has a kind of flat, but noticeably dome shaped roof. The house still though look mostly square.
My characteristics these days are the brown fur I have on my body. I have a noticeably large beard, but it does not go down too far. My body is muscular, so I am in good condition.
I was wearing a hat with kind of a large brim that had a strap so it wouldn’t blow over, and a jacket that went down to my legs. I wore black boots, and a button-up shirt. I was faced to the ground, concentrating on my meal to kill. I was looking down at an opening in the forest. They it laid a lake and tall grass which was what I was hiding in. Everything was barely quiet. There was a wolf standing in the open land. It was looking around not knowing that I was watching it. It was an average sized male adult wolf. I decided that it would be my dinner for some nights. I was holding a rifle. It had a nice scope and a nice shot to it.
Suddenly I shot it. It went down and died. I quickly stood up and walked to the dead wolf. I done all the stuff you do once you shoot another animal, and I hauled it back.
Back at the house I walked through the back door and into the kitchen. I cut the wolf up taking it’s good meat, then putting it in my freezer and threw the bad parts away.
I walked into the living room. There stood a couch, a chair, and a fireplace that was still had some fire left in it. I took a deep breath and sat on the couch. I closed my eyes trying to take a nap. Seconds after I started to nap I heard a knock on the door. I stood up, walked to the door, and opened it.
There stood an old friend of mine. He didn’t have a beard quite like mine, but he did have brown fur like me. The fur on his head was kind of long. Not quite like how females of our species normally are, but it was noticeably long. We wore glasses for as long as I have known him. His lenses were completely round. He wore a shirt with buttons, a scarf, a jacket, and boots. His name was Gerard Kain.
I gave a little smile. “Garard! Its good to see you.”
He smiled and said “It is good to see you. It’s been a month.”
We shook hands.
“Well, come in. Come in.” I said to Gerard.
He walked in and took off this coat and scarf. We then we sat down. I sat on the chair while he sat on the couch.
“So what in the hell have you been doing for the past month?”
“Well! Work is pretty hard back in the capital of Zay. I should get good money though. The wife has been busy with the two children, so I try to help her out. The children have a lot to learn. They will realize our planet and how it can be.”
“Yeah! It can be harsh sometimes.”
“But they are only a little ways in Elementary School. They’re cute though. What about you Isobu?”
“I have been reflecting on the past. I got over my dad’s death a long while ago, but I can’t help but think about it once in a while. I’m sure you understand.”
“Yeah! I cant help but think about my dad and how he died, then like you moving to the capital a little bit after, but I try to get over it. You should get sad over things forever. It is the past. Make way for the future. Isn’t that right Isobu?”
I said nothing. I looked at him, then looked down. Gerard sighed at me.
Gerard stood up. “It’s been good seeing you old friend. May fate be good with you.” He then grabbed his coat, put it on, then wrapped his scarf around his neck, and opened the door and looked back. “Have a nice day.” He shut the door and was gone leaving me to be alone again.
I stood up to grab some wood. I grabbed a couple of big pieces and threw it in the fire. The big pieces were fallowed by some kindling.

The questions that are in my mind is, does the chapter need to be longer? Am I rushing things?
