Segment/Section Approval Thread

Calling all Sirs and Sirsettes with ideas aplenty! Here is where you can post your ideas for different segments that will appearing in our weekly podcast!

These must be well thought-out ideas, folks! Segments that are feasable and fun, but we want to know exactly what it is you have in store for us. If you don't have all the details worked out, or want some advice on how your idea can be better developed, post them in this thread first, and you can be advised on how to best proceed, and then can eventually post them here for approval.

Your proposals should include the title and/or general subject of your segment. It should also include what your segment will specifically be discussing, as well as who will be partaking in it (if it will be you solo, or you and some other members as well, etc etc...). You should also specify if you want your segment to be reoccuring or a one-off segment. Is this something you want to do and can commit to doing once every few weeks or once a month? Or do you have an idea that is only suited to be done one time? Both are quite welcome!

If possible, please post your ideas in audio form. That way we'll also be able to get an idea of how these segments will sound.

Of course, we don't want to exclude those who cannot or chose not to record their own segments, but still have great ideas! If you don't have the ability, or don't want to have your own voice taking part, then you can make your proposal in text form, and if approved we can help find someone willing to take on the responsibility of running it.

Your proposals will then be subject to approval by your directors, and if approved you will have your idea be a part of the ZU Community Podcast!

So let's get those creative juices flowing and hear some of your great ideas! Happy proposing, and best of luck!

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

*Grabs ideas from the other suggestion thread* Unfortunately, I am unable to record and submit stuff at this time, partly due to a lack of equipment, and partly due to lack of knowledge. I could probably get equipment together soon, so if someone tells me how, I can probably do stuff myself. Otherwise, I'm just submitting ideas for others to run.

EDIT : I think I now have the tools required to put stuff together, so I might look into submitting something at some point, maybe.

ANOTHER EDIT : I am relatively confident that I can put together my own stuff now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thought I have is a competitive news coverage segment. The purpose of this would be to cover various competitions taking place around the ZU forums. There would be a short bit at the front for updates on the smaller contests from the Clan Arena, such as the guess that Zelda character, and guess the pokemon threads. This short section would comprise a quick update on the scores of each clan in the major threads, and a couple of points of interest if there are any. This section would then go on to add up the total of all the current arena threads and state which clan is ahead overall. It would also have quick updates on anything else small and competitive happening around ZU.

The main body of the segment would be a report of sorts on a couple of the major competitions happening around ZU. For example, when the SSBB tournament being discussed gets going, there might be a couple reports on that. BA tournaments could also be covered here, along with anything of a competitive nature. This segment would be run as a reoccuring segment, with a variable length depending on available material. If there isn't much going on in the way of competition, it may well become a simple update on the Clan Arena.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second concept I have come up with is a simple reading section. Here, a small excerpt from a ZU fanfic, character fiction, BA battle, or anything else around of a literary nature. Probably lasting about 4 minutes, maybe less, this segment would probably run every week.

The piece to be read would be decided by submission; people would send PM's to the runner of the segment asking for their work to be read, and the decision would be at random. It may have to be decided by an impartial someone. After the reading, there would be a quick reference to the location of the piece, so people could go and find and read the rest of it, if it wasn't read in it's entirety.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My last idea is a section based on gaming news. The first bit would be a good, journalism-based news section, where a small team of reporters would search the internet and other places for reliable gaming news, and have it reported in a professional fashion.

In contrast, the second bit will be pretty much a hearsay type thing. This section is where all the gaming speculation, rumors, and other entirely unofficial stuff goes. People can send in things they've heard or seen that's related to gaming, and have it possibly chosen for this section. This segment can be run each week also, given the amount of gaming news available.

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

Alrighty then.

The Casual Gamer

The Casual Gamer is about... well, the casual gamer. Nintendo's new approach is something most of us ZU'ers have thought of and I'm about to find out more. How much do elderly people know about video/compuer games, do children still recognize mario and what games do younger gamers remember like many of us remembered NES mario? I'm simply taking my MP3-player downtown and interview some people, and I'll of course only include parts that are easy to listen to without much noise around.

I plan to make this a reoccuring segment. I'll start off with a few episodes (say 5) and then I'll see if people would like me to continue or not. As long as I get fresh ideas and support, I'll keep going. Last I heard, we're planning to make this podcast about 15 minutes or so. I'm not really sure how long I should make the segment... 2-3 minutes?

I can't post this in audio form right now... and I'm not sure if I should send the files by mail... or is there any site somewhere where I can easily upload audio files? I'd like to have that answered. Then I could send you a small voice clip if you need to know what I sound like before I get this going, but I think you can trust me on this one

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

Hombre, you're segment idea is a great one, and is thus approved. You can go ahead and start working on it.

MrRandom, you've got a lot of good fledgling ideas, but they could use some more work. Such as, for the readings idea, how would it be decided as to what would be selected to be read? Flesh out those ideas more, they have a lot of potential!

Also, you say you won't be able to record them yourself. If you do flesh out these ideas more, would you like us to find someone to "run" them for you, or do you have anyone in mind that you'd like to ask?

Alright, I've added a bit more to each of my ideas. As for the recording, I do have the facility to record at this point, but I have absolutely no practice at it. Also, it would be nigh-impossible for me to manage all three. So, since I have no particular preference about who does them, I'd like someone else to look for someone to run a couple of these segments. I would, however, like to give running at least one of these segments a go.

Anything else I missed out?

I could bring an interesting saying, or quote. something meaningful, amusing/entertaining, motivational and/or educational. something completely silly and random, or possibly something to get you thinking about.

that's where I'll leave it for now.

that's what I posted some time ago in the other thread.
basically a short part somewhat like a break. or end, whichever. something random that is entertaining or educational. or both. whatever.

k.

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

Okay, MrRandom, looks like you've got some good ideas there. Only one question I will ask is if, for the "reading" segment, if the option should be there for people to read their own work. That way they can give the voice they hear in the head to the actual reading.

Other than that, I'd say they're all solid ideas. Do you know which one you'd like to run yourself? And also, IS ANYONE WILLING/WANTING TO TAKE OVER ONE OF MRRANDOM'S SUGGESTIONS?

Consider whichever one you chose to do approved, and you can begin working on it.

Also, I'd love for DD to have his own segment. His submission to the host's application thread was brilliant and hilarious, so if you're willing to do it, sir, I would definately say go for it.

Future: So like an "inspirational quote or message of the day" type deal to go at a midway or ending of each podcast? Sounds basic enough. If you're willing to do it, I'm willing to put it into the 'cast.

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

^ hey Gale , maybe after the hosts are chosen, those who didn;t make it can be offered different programmes that do not yet have a presenter thingy for them?

That could work methinks

THE HAZZ SECTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED TILL HAZZ PUBLICLY PROCLAIMS I AM BETTER THAN HIM IN FRENCH.

How about a segment on the history of the Zelda Universe chat room? A way to bring in new members to the best part of the community!

Re: Segment/Section Approval Thread

Hm, this is the thought-out more fleshed out segment idea Bret, so, I'll answer you then hope that someone can be good enough to move both our posts to the Suggestions thread.

Ok,

I realise the Chat is where most of the community thingy happens but wHAt and how can it be part of the cast? I thought before about a wee drama thingy a bit like (But NOT the same xD) as the thingycomics you did for #Future comics though with 100% less profanity *laughs*
If you have other ideas of how the chat can feature, go right ahead and propose a more detailed version of the programme whatsit! :p
