Shopkeepers are an important part of the land of Hyrule and are frequently the only place for Link to aquire necessary items for traversing the world and progressing through the game. Although there are many different shopkeepers that have called Hyrule home across the ages, some particular shopkeepers appear multiple times throughout the series, such as the famous Beedle who, despite making his first appearance in The Wind Waker, has re-appeared in titles as recently as Tears of the Kingdom. Beedle is, however, a rather special case, becoming somewhat of a mascot for the shopkeepers of Hyrule. While Beedle has most certainly become the default shopkeeper for Hyrule, there are other shopkeepers that have made multiple appearances within the Zelda series, such as Stockwell who appeared in both Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons before his more substantial appearance in The Minish Cap.
There’s hardly anything to say about the Stockwell from Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, but the Stockwell of The Minish Cap has much more going on. Stockwell is more or less the main shopkeeper of Hyrule Castle Town and provides Link with several important updates to his arsenal such as Bomb Bags, Quivers, and even the Boomerang. He also maintains a stock of the typical consumables, such as Arrows, Bombs, and Mysterious Shells, which anyone who seeks to collect all Figurines will become quickly familiar with. While his prices are rather high, he’s the only one in Hyrule who can provide such upgrades, so there are few places where Link’s Rupees are better spent.

Aside from his typical life as a shopkeeper, Stockwell happens to have a very nice house near the shore of Lake Hylia, no doubt funded by the lucrative business he recieves from Link. He also has a dog names Fifi who remains home alone in this lakeside house, far away from Hyrule Castle Town. Fifi actually expresses loneliness when spoken to as Minish Link, which likely means Stockwell doesn’t return home from his shop until late. Link can help out with the rift between owner and dog by delivering some of Fifi’s food after sneaking behind Stockwell’s counter and recieving the sidequest to deliver the bottled dogfood, netting himself an empty bottle after he’s done.
Although he is nowhere near as ubiquitous as Beedle in the discussion of Zelda shopkeepers, Stockwell is rather memorable for me due to his particularly uptight personality and high prices as well as being the first shopkeeper I ever encountered in a Zelda game. The Minish Cap had the unique ability to interact with characters in many more ways due to the ability to sneak around in the crevices of their homes and businesses, and Stockwell has plenty of interesting surprises for a nosy Link.
