ZREO: Second Quest kicks off crowd-fund Scoring Sessions series with a Twilight Princess orchestra

While Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda Orchestra returns in its epic grandeur worldwide, fans are busy cooking up remarkable orchestrated renditions of their own. ZREO: Second Quest, the Zelda fan musical group formerly known as Zelda Reorchestrated, has announced their own one-of-a-kind musical project called Scoring Sessions. Fans get to decide through donations which Zelda songs get to be transformed into a live recorded orchestra score in what order in this exciting interactive event.

“ZREO: Second Quest presents “Scoring Sessions,” a groundbreaking series that transforms the beloved melodies of The Legend of Zelda into breathtaking live orchestral performances — with your help,” states the ZREO: Second Quest website. “Experience the depth and vibrancy of the music of The Legend of Zelda through live studio recordings with a full orchestra.” To kick off Scoring Sessions, ZREO produced “Midna,” a remarkable movement inspired by Twilight Princess that can be purchased now on Bandcamp. It’s co-produced by Amy Turk, Tim De Man, and even the Budapest Orchestra.

What will the next scored musical song be? You can help decide on ZREO’s website. Right now, there is a stiff donation competition happening between Link’s Awakening’s Ballad of the Windfish and the Twilight Princess version of Hyrule Field. Certain reward levels are unlocked for those who donate. Can’t decide between the two? Don’t worry, you can purchase ZREO merchandise on Bandcamp and the proceeds will be split 50/50 to each track.

All of the musical pieces in the Scoring Sessions series will be produced in Highest Dynamic Range sound, or HDR for short. Why is that a big deal? Well, music experts tout that HDR is the closest thing a listener can get to experiencing the feeling of a live orchestra without actually being there. “This edition caters to audiophiles seeking the ultimate essence of studio recordings,” explains ZREO’s website. “It maintains the original dynamic range of the orchestra, from the subtlest nuances to the most powerful crescendos, offering an antidote to the pervasive “loudness wars.” In short, it’s the most accurate capture of the live sound experience concert enthusiasts yearn for.
