If you love The Legend of Zelda and are interested in writing in-depth pieces covering the series, Zelda Universe wants to hear from you!
As one of the oldest and largest communities of Legend of Zelda fans on the web, Zelda Universe is the perfect place to share your passion for Link’s and Zelda’s many adventures. We’re currently accepting applications for volunteers to become members of our Features team, which produces insightful and thought-provoking articles about any and all topics related to the Legend of Zelda franchise. Our Features Writers are allowed to write about whatever aspects of the games and its related media that they are most interested in, and at their own pace.
The role of Features Writers
WHAT TYPE OF TOPICS CAN A FEATURE BE ABOUT?
A Features Writer’s goal is to create long-form articles that examine a particular topic or concept. There are a lot of options for features. They can be:
- Historical retrospectives
- Analyses of specific elements from the franchise’s many entries
- Comparisons of two or more games
- Anything else that creates an interesting discussion point
So long as it provides a thoughtful perspective on something related to The Legend of Zelda franchise, your feature will have a place at Zelda Universe.
Another possible type of feature are our lists, where writers rank the best candidates within a specific topic. These lists typically include rankings with 10 entries and are written in countdown format, although alternate approaches may be used depending on the subject. Lists are among our most popular pieces, and a writer’s unique ranking is always sure to generate plenty of debate from our readers!
Features Writers may also write reviews published for Zelda Universe. Most often, our reviews are for either video games published by Nintendo, or for games that have a distinct Legend of Zelda “feel”, and would appeal to Legend of Zelda fans. Reviews can also be written for other Legend of Zelda media beyond the video games, and for officially licensed merchandise.

- Your name

- Your resume (or an overview of your qualifications and work experience)

Please also provide at least one of the following:
- Writing samples (articles, blogs, essays, fictional works, etc.)
- Mock drafts of Zelda-related opinion pieces
It may take us a little while for us to select the most suitable applicants, so please don’t feel discouraged if we don’t respond straight away. It may take up to a week or longer before we select you.
We’re very professional about what we do here, but we also have a ton of fun while doing it! We have a highly talented and very friendly team ready to welcome you.
We’d like to reiterate that all members of the Zelda Universe staff are volunteer positions. We do this for our love of the Legend of Zelda and to share in that passion for the series alongside the countless other fans around the world.
General FAQ
HOW DO THE WRITING TEAMS AT ZELDA UNIVERSE OPERATE?
All of the content you see on the Zelda Universe home page is published using WordPress. If you’ve never used WordPress before, it is very easy to learn and we can run you through the whole process. You do not need to set up your own WordPress account; we’ll be setting you up with your own WordPress account specifically for Zelda Universe.
We use the instant messaging application Slack for the majority of our teams’ communication. If you’ve never used Slack before, it works similarly to Discord or Skype, with various channels for each team.
We also use Trello to coordinate all of our drafts, projects, and ideas. Each team has its own Trello board. Again, we’ll set this up for you and you will receive an invite to our own Trello boards.
WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED FOR THIS POSITION?
A working computer and an internet connection — that’s it!
I LOVE TO WRITE BUT I DON’T HAVE MUCH PAST EXPERIENCE. WILL I STILL BE CONSIDERED?
Yes! While we’re interested in seeing any previously published works or articles applicants may have, there are still many ways you can demonstrate your writing abilities. You can send us any blogs, essays, fictional works, or any pieces you are proud of.
If you’re still short on samples, we are also very interested in seeing any mock articles you can produce for the site. Just take a look at our previously published articles on the home page to get a feel for our format, and give it a shot!
WHAT ARE THE PERKS OF WRITING FOR ZELDA UNIVERSE?
There are two common reasons why people join our team: fun and experience.
For fun: Writing is always fun, and so is sharing what you wrote. If you’re a Legend of Zelda fan who loves to share their thoughts in a creative way, writing for Zelda Universe is the perfect way to do that. There is an endless variety of different topics to let your imagination run wild writing about.
For experience: As one of the oldest and largest Legend of Zelda communities out there, Zelda Universe has thousands of regular readers and social media followers. For those of you looking to gain some experience in the field of writing, this is an opportunity to learn how to write content for a large audience.
Building a resume and portfolio of work is essential for those seeking work in all writing-centered and creative fields, and our staff is more than happy to help you improve your writing as you go.
