The Nintendo 3DS and WiiU eShop will soon begin the closing process

It’s the beginning of the end of an era. Nintendo announced last Tuesday that its eShop service for the 3DS and WiiU consoles will soon come to a close for good. On August 29, 2022, “it will no longer be possible to add funds,” stated Nintendo’s public Twitter post. And by March 27, 2023, all purchases for eShop goods on those devices will no longer be available.

What happens to your purchased downloadable content? Not to worry. Nintendo pointed out that even after the discontinuation is complete, 3DS and WiiU owners will still be able to re-download their purchased games and DLC. Customers will also continue to receive software updates and enjoy online play as they do right now. That’s a comforting thought to many gaming enthusiasts after the wake of Ubisoft’s earlier announcement that it will pull the plug on online playability for 15 of its own older games, including five Assasin’s Creed titles.

There’s still time to take advantage of these classic titles while they’re still available, several of which are notable Zelda games. Not sure which ones to get before the final curtain call? No problem. Zelda Universe has developed this handy little graph for fans like you.

The complete list of Zelda content that is available for the 3DS and WiiU.
Note: the graphic will soon be updated to include Super Mario Maker, too.

The Zelda-themed content in Super Mario Maker for the WiiU was not mentioned at the time the graphic was developed, but it will soon be updated to be included.
