Zelda-like game XEL gets a series of “Developer Diaries” videos

Over the past few weeks, the developers behind XEL have shared three unique “Developer Diaries” videos detailing many aspects of the exciting and futuristic Zelda-inspired game coming next year.

Each of the three videos dives into a different aspect of the game. This includes the gameplay, character designs, and what the developers consider the “six pillars” of its design. Between each of the three diaries, you really start to get a good understanding of both the game and the goals of the developers.

The first video dives into a first look at the gameplay as we watch a developer play through the opening sequence of the game. While playing, he also discusses how various mechanics of the combat and puzzles work, and what makes them unique from other Zelda-like adventures.

The second diary explains the character designs and the process of trial and error it took to get to the current visual style. Apparently, the developers first wanted to try and go for a more chibi-style but decided that the current look allowed for a lot more freedom and creativity when making the game’s different characters.

Finally, the last video dives into the six pillars that make this game what it is. These six pillars are exploration, puzzles, combat, story, dungeons, and crafting. The developers are using these pillars as sort of a promise to players on what they should expect, like how the game will offer complex dungeons that will challenge every skill the game requires and an intuitive combat system that makes fighting fun. Check out the video for more information on each of the pillars!

XEL is planned to launch for all platforms in 2022, so be sure to keep an eye out for this gorgeous, creative, and exciting new adventure when it releases!
