The renowned Zelda manga artist-duo Akira Himekawa recently announced that an exhibition of their original work will soon be featured in the Kyoto International Manga Museum from September 18 to December 26, 2021. This exciting event loosely translates from Japanese as “Akira Himekawa Original Painting Exhibition – Looking Back on the ‘Legend of Zelda’ Manga.”
The duo also add, “The schedule and contents, including temporary closure due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, are subject to change. Please check the museum’s official website information when the official release is issued.”
Meanwhile, Akira Himekawa have been hard at work wrapping up the ninth volume of the Twilight Princess manga series. An ongoing project since 2016, the series has now reached the pinnacle of its climax into the epic final battle arc fans have been waiting for. The English version of volume nine is planned to be released on September 14, 2021. The series can be purchased at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Target, and other mainstream retail book venues.
For those not as well-versed in the realm of Zelda manga, Akira Himekawa is an award-winning duo of the women manga artists A. Honda and S. Nagano. Together, they have produced numerous mangas based on The Legend of Zelda games, along with Astro Boy. They created original works such as Gold Ring, an Arabic-style manga that won the 2010 Sheikh Zayed Book Award for children’s literature. English releases of past Zelda mangas such as Ocarina of Time have also topped selling charts, scooping up various international reading awards in its path of success.
While not considered canon, the Zelda manga series tells adaptations that stick very close to the spirit of the game stories, bringing with them a welcome breath of fresh air for any fan who is a first-time reader.
