Yuga’s Art Gallery: Sunset Harpists

A few things I associate with summer are long days and short nights, trips to the beach, and strolls in town with an ice cream in my hand. Unfortunately, I can’t go to the beach for a swim or admire city buildings at the moment. Instead, I look up at the sky as the sun sets, especially when there are clouds to be dramatically painted by the sun, and try to ignore the neighbor’s barking dog in the background. But then I found this pretty painting with not only a sunset but also the sea and two of my favorite girls in the Legend of Zelda series, and my summer day became a little better.

When I was a child, Medli was one of my favorite characters from The Wind Waker, and I remember writing stories in class with her being the heroine instead of Link. I didn’t discover Marin until more recent years thanks to Link’s Awakening getting a release on the Nintendo Switch, but it wasn’t difficult to fall in love with her sweet nature either. Marin and Medli have more things in common than just being sweet though, and that’s something Michelle Caraway, who created this gorgeous painting, thought about when putting them in the same picture. Michelle, who also goes by Mischavie on DeviantArt, pointed out that both girls love music and birds, and they both live on islands. It sounds like they would become best friends in no time if they both existed in the same game, don’t you think?

Perhaps that is why Michelle gave Marin a look that resembles The Wind Waker‘s art style, so the girls can exist in the same world. Marin’s new look is so well done that I would probably assume she’s a character included in the same game if I didn’t already know better.

The clouds crack open ever so slightly over the spot where Medli and Marin are sitting with their respective harps, and the light that shines through is just enough to create a soft glow around them. If I could, I would bring my kalimba with me and pretend to be as good a player as these talented girls are because, if there’s one thing I’m longing for these days, it’s to hear waves crash against rocks with a burning sunset as backdrop. If there are two girls strumming their harps and singing along the melodies they play, that’s just a bonus I’ll happily take.
