Shigeru Miyamoto has made an undeniable impact on the gaming community as a whole. Many high-profile game developers and industry leaders can cite Miyamoto as an inspiration to them, with the newest addition to that long list being Gabe Newell.
Newell, founder of Valve and Steam, took some time out of a recent interview with 1 News to shine some praise on Miyamoto.
“Playing Miyamoto’s games, it’s like, one, they’re a lot of fun, but I can’t think of any of his games I’ve ever played that didn’t make me better as a game developer,” Newell said in his interview.
This isn’t the first time Newell had mentioned he was a fan of Miyamoto, however. In 2018, his son, Grey, revealed that he and Miyamoto had played Super Mario Galaxy together and discussed working together on a joint project. Obviously, nothing came from this meeting because, as Grey put it, “it was super casual.”
Maybe Mario will get that Portal gun someday.
