In today’s mini-presentation from Nintendo, Steve from the Minecraft series was confirmed to be the next playable character to be added to the game for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2.
As shown in the gameplay sections of the reveal, Steve’s moveset will consist of many iconic items from Minecraft. He can attack with a sword and pickaxe, grab characters with a fishing rod, build with blocks, and detonate TNT, among other abilities inspired by the source game. He was also briefly shown to incorporate some level of crafting abilities.

Additionally, Steve was shown to have alternate character skins, similar to how Olimar can be changed to Alph or Bowser Jr. can be changed to any of the Koopalings. Steve will join the game along with three additional skins, those being Alex, Zombie, and Enderman.
A new stage was also revealed alongside the characters. As would be expected, this currently unnamed stage is built entirely of Minecraft blocks. The stage appears to transition through the four seasons as well as day and night while players fight, with the layout of the stage changing each time it does. This specifics of these mechanics have yet to be confirmed, however.

The character’s release date was not revealed, but after the trailer, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai briefly discussed the inclusion of the characters and mentioned that more details will be made available in the coming days. He will be hosting “Mr. Sakurai presents Steve & Alex” on October 3, 7:30 a.m. PST, directly before the Minecraft Live celebration from Microsoft. Mr. Sakurai’s presentation will be approximately 45 minutes long.
