This weekend’s Smash Ultimate Spirit Board event pays tribute to the Nintendo 64 era

Announced via the official Japanese Twitter account, the next Spirit Board event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be focused on characters that appeared on the Nintendo 64 platform.

A number of different franchises are included in the announcement image ranging from the familiar Yoshi’s Story and Donkey Kong 64 to the less familiar Custom Robo and Sin and Punishment. It also includes artwork of the Nintendo 64 hardware used on the Japanese box.

Then, of course, there are inclusions from the two releases from the Zelda franchise on the Nintendo 64: Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. Of particular note is Malon who shows up in the announcement artwork and has also since had a separate tweet entirely focused on her.

In addition to the characters themselves, another aspect of the tribute to the Nintendo 64 is that, after each battle, you will get experience valued at 6.4 times the normal amount. The event will begin Friday, June 5 in Japan. No specific announcement has come from Nintendo of America or the U.S. Smash account at this time, so specific times outside Japan may vary.
