GLASYS, a musican who makes synth covers of famous video game music, has outdone himself this time. The “Palace Theme” from Zelda II is one of the most recognizable pieces of music from the series (despite coming from one of the most underplayed entries), and GLASYS has morphed it into a pounding, intense symphony.
The video shows the musician plowing through the theme with unbelievable ease. His fingers play the keys with immaculate finesse. It is so good that I wanted to log onto Nintendo Switch Online and give the game another whirl.
The theme, from the 1987 sequel to the original classic, has been more widely heard in the Super Smash Bros. series. This, along with the recently released album of Zelda synth tunes, shows that the classic music we know and love can be just as great recreated in any genre.
