Reggie Fils-Aimé to take part in a limited-run podcast to raise money for NYC mentoring

Reggie Fils-Aimé retired as president of Nintendo of America just over a year ago. While that may mean he no longer has the responsibilities of running Nintendo of America anymore, he has been far from kicking back around the house doing nothing all this time. In the time since, he has taken on the role of Leader in Residence at Cornell University’s Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, joined the board of directors for the New York Videogame Critics Circle, became managing partner in an equity firm, and most recently joined the Board of Directors for video game retailer, GameStop.

With so many things still on his plate in his retirement, it is hard to imagine he would have much else he could do. Well, that would be wrong. Reggie announced via Twitter and an article by The Washington Post that he, along with award-winning author/journalist Harold Goldberg, had started a GoFundMe to raise money for the non-profit mentoring work of The New York Videogame Critics Circle. As part of this campaign, he and Goldberg will be putting together a seven-part podcast titled “Talking Games with Reggie and Harold” with the first episode coming out mid-May.

The campaign is focused on raising money for new initiatives for games and writing courses for homeless high school students across New York City with a particular focus on the Bronx. In addition to helping those in New York City, they intend to move their videogame journalism course online and once that is complete, their courses will be available for use via educators around the country for free. They will even be able to help with facilitation, also at no cost.

In addition to raising money for a good cause and a podcast, selected donors will get the chance to ask Reggie questions. All donors, however, will have first access to purchase some rare gaming memorabilia courtesy of the Circle. Also, all donors will get additional content from Reggie, Harold, and their guests. Speaking of guests, they have already announced that Geoff Keighley (creator, host, and producer of The Game Awards) will be their first guest.

If you are interested in donating to the campaign, you can do so via their GoFundMe page.
