New survival adventure game Windbound reminds us of Breath of the Wild

If you’re like me and are dying while waiting for the release of Breath of the Wild 2, then perhaps Windbound is the perfect game for you.

Windbound, developed by 5 Lives Studios, is a survival-adventure game set to be released on August 8, 2020. This new game seems to be a beautiful mix of Breath of the Wild, The Wind Waker, and Rime, giving one the irresistible sense of adventure and discovery.

Kara uses a paraglider similar to the one Link uses in Breath of the Wild.

The game takes place in a vibrant archipelago full of lush and unique wildlife for players to explore. Players will play as Kara, a warrior that has been separated from her tribe by a fierce storm. Tossed from her boat, she wakes up on the shore of the Forbidden Island, a mysterious place that was once home to an ancient people.

At first, the player’s focus will be to reunite with their tribe and survive as they gather materials and craft items that will help them hunt, fight, and explore. However, as they embark on their mission to return to their tribe, they will soon realize the unusual nature of the islands with the surrounding storm, hidden artifacts, and ancient monuments.

The ruins scattered about the archipelago hide the lore and history of the islands’ old residents and Kara’s connection to them. To discover these secrets, players will need to craft their own vessels, starting with a simple grass canoe. As they gather more resources, they will be able to upgrade their boats or craft their own custom ones that fit their preferences and play styles.

Exploration is a huge factor in Windbound. Different environments have their own diverse flora and fauna to discover, as well as different materials to gather. Players will also be able to explore limitlessly as the game is procedurally generated. This will give players a unique experience each time they play, as the map will be different every time they start a new game.

With the release only a few months away, Windbound is sure to be an exciting game to keep you sane while waiting for the Breath of the Wild sequel.

Windbound will be available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
