Chapter 4: Deku Forest

Return to Lynna Village

With the Harp of Ages now in your possession, what better time to put it to use? Head upstairs and then out of Nayru’s house in order to run into your first Time Portal sigil. Play the Harp’s melody, and the portal will be activated. Step into it, and you’ll be pulled across time back to the past.
Simply head west, and instantly you’ll be back at the screen where you first came to the past era from. Go south one screen, and then a westward journey will take you back to Lynna City.
Trading Quest
While you’re here in Lynna Village’s past, you should take the time to advance the trading quest two steps by trading the Poe Clock for the Letter Set and subsequently that for the Stink Bag. The next step of the trading quest is a bit out of the way, so it’s good to do that now as opposed to later.
Lynna Village again will be mostly just as you left it. But there are things worth doing here while you’re back. There’s a teleportation tree just south of the village that’s worth visiting; it also has the boon of providing you some Ember Seeds. You’ll need at least one while exploring the forest, so make sure you get some for later.

Head south from the eastern village entrance, and then take the familiar jog westward over the bridge to the village’s western bank. Head south once again, and then lift up the rocks in the way so that you can access the western outskirts of the village.
The path to the Deku Forest, as it is called in this past era, shouldn’t be surprising to you. Head to the west as you vanquish the Octoroks that get in your way. Then finally head south into the Deku Forest proper.
Navigate the Deku Forest
Thankfully the Deku Forest is nowhere as confusing as the Fairies’ Woods, though it certainly was much more overgrown in the past. There will be a lot more meandering pathways to get you from one point to another. To start, take the southeasterly pathway as the more northern east passage leads to a dead end (and a cave). Then head south, and west. As you do so, you’ll notice that there are heaps of Lynna Village denizens skulking about the forest. Talking to them suggests that Queen Ambi is looking for a very specific thing that can be found here. Perhaps you’ll be the one to find what she’s looking for and gain her favor, hm?

Take the familiar path around the forest outskirts.
However, the dungeon entrance is sealed up.
You should now be at the dungeon entrance, and, while you can walk right up to it, the dungeon is sealed tight, blocked by a cracked stone rock where the door ought to be. That’s a sheer sign that you need Bombs, but unfortunately you don’t have any… yet.
To acquire those, you’ll need to traverse the entire expanse of the Deku Forest. Start by heading west and then north using the western passage. (You can take the northeasterly passage there if you want a Gasha Seed, but you’ll just have to end up coming back this way.) Once you then head west, you’ll find a cavern entrance on the other side of some potholes. That’s your target cave to explore. Just find a way to that cave and you’ll be in business.
Piece of Heart
Within the Deku Forest is the sixth Piece of Heart, which happens to be the fourth fixed location one. If you haven’t gotten the one from Maple yet, this is a sure-fire way to add a Heart Container before the second dungeon.
However, from this point onward, you’ll be back in enemy territory. Kill the Moblins that get in your way, and simply continue your trek. Continue southward two screens, and then head west once you reach the outlook onto the sea. If you continue the passageway here, you’ll end up at a dead end. However, you may notice that there’s one of those annoying shrubs blocking another passageway northward. Burn it down and follow the path.

Weave your way through the forest path.
Burn this bush in order to head northward.
Definitely buy a Shield if you don’t have one; it’ll prove handy in the second dungeon.
As you head northward, you’ll encounter a Deku Scrub at the edge of the road. He’ll offer you to buy a Shield. If you haven’t picked one up from the Lynna City store yet, you should definitely get one here for 30 Rupees. It’s exactly the same price Stockwell’s store sells it for, and you will absolutely need it in the second dungeon.
Linked Game Secret
If you’re playing a Linked Game, you can also get a password to upgrade your Seed Satchel both in your completed Seasons game and this one.
Otherwise, continue north, and you’ll end up directly in front of that cavern you saw earlier. Once you get there, head downstairs.

Get the Mystery Seeds for Queen Ambi
Immediately as you head down the steps, you’ll see a red Zol and a treasure chest along the northern wall. It’s got a cool 30 Rupees in it, which is nice. However, the direction you really want to be going is south along the eastern wall.
Watch out as you reach the southeastern corner as there’s a Spiny Beetle lying in wait under that bush. He won’t try to attack you as you’re approaching from the north, but be aware of it as you’ll be coming back this way. Kill it, and then lift up the rock to the west. Then head up the stairs on the next screen.

Claim your Mystery Seeds on the other end of the tunnel.
Above ground, you’ll find another teleportation tree, and this tree will spawn Mystery Seeds. Hack at the tree with your sword, and you’ll acquire them and add them to your Seed Satchel collection. Once you have them, head back north and into the cave.
Walk back through the cave in reverse order, careful about the Spiny Beetle. Once you hit the staircase, head southward. You’ll not get far before you get stopped by Ambi’s guards. They’ll see that you have Mystery Seeds in your possession, and they’ll be excited. They’ll immediately escort you to Ambi’s castle just north of Lynna Village, where you’ll get to meet with the queen herself. She’ll be delighted to see you, and she’ll make you hand over those seeds you just acquired. However, in return, she’ll give you some much needed Bombs, just what you needed.
However, as it turns out, it’s not Queen Ambi that needs these seeds. It’s actually Nayru-cum-Veran, who will use these to help create the endless day to force Ambi’s laborers to work on her Black Tower nonstop. Is it worth the trade? For now, definitely yes.
Blast open the second dungeon

You’ll be escorted out of the palace, and that means you’ll be deposited at the northwest corner of Lynna Village. This means that, once again, you’ll have to make your way back to the Deku Forest. Head out the southwest exit of Lynna Village, head west and south into the forest, and then follow the pathway to, once again, make your way to the second dungeon.
Take one of your newly acquired ten Bombs and hurl it at the cracked wall in front of the stone dungeon. Once it blows, it’ll blast the door open wide, allowing you to finally gain access to Level Two.
