In July, we reported that a new Chain Chomp figure was available as a prize for winning the Trendy Game in Link’s Awakening, but Nintendo had not shared any official information about the new item until now.
Two new tweets from the official Legend of Zelda Twitter account reveal both Goomba and Piranha Plant figures that can be placed on pedestals like the Chain Chomp we previously saw. The tweets are written in Japanese, but thankfully user @kaialone02 has translated them into English for the community.
“It’s me, Old Man Ulrira. Look out, there’s a Goomba and Piranha Plant in the house!! …Or so I thought, but turns out they’re just figurines… But, they’re actually pretty well-made. I want one, too…”
“Well, I’ll be! I just learned that the figurines are prizes from the crane game! Alright, I might try to get myself some of those, too.”
Unfortunately, the second tweet appears to confirm that the Trendy Game is the only way to find the figures. I was really hoping they would be hidden around the world to find. On the other hand, this does give you a good reason to revisit the Trendy Game and sink some rupees into the mini-game. In the original game, I would rarely revisit after getting the Yoshi Doll (and perhaps winning some rupees to buy a Shovel).
