With Link and Zelda reunited and adventuring together in the recent trailer for the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel, there has been some speculation circulating on whether or not the eponymous princess will be playable this time around.
When Kotaku went to Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma himself for answers, he responded with a question of his own: “A lot of people have been asking that, and so I want to ask you, why do people think that?”
Kotaku reasoned that the decision would make sense, given the way Breath of the Wild ended, and that “people have wanted it for a long time.” Aonuma replied with, “I see. [laughs] But I can’t tell you.”
In 2013, Aonuma said he may consider giving Princess Zelda her own game if fans had “strong feelings about it.” Zelda also became a playable character in Hyrule Warriors, which launched a year later.
While we aren’t any closer to confirmation, the fact that Aonuma didn’t shoot the possibility down may give fans who want to play as Zelda in the Breath of the Wild sequel a little hope.
