I still remember the first moment I found Rito Village in Breath of the Wild. I’d been wandering about for some time around the western portion of the map and I saw a bundle of what looked like buildings in the distance. Excited to find a new town (admittedly, I wanted to see possible new armors to dress Link up in) I gleefully made my way there.
I didn’t think that Rito Village would have one of my favorite Zelda songs awaiting me, however.
From the very moment I arrived, I was in love with the music. It was slow-paced, but had its own identity and stood out among the rest of the soundtrack. It was pleasant to listen to as I walked around speaking to my favorite race of characters. In fact it was so relaxing, I found myself putting the game down and closing my eyes just to lose myself in the music; something I don’t do much anymore.
Any time I hear a song I love from a game, I become very excited at the idea of possible remixes or covers of said music from other talented folks. Youtuber Sam Griffin Guitar has given us a relaxing and masterfully played guitar cover of the Rito Village, and I adore it to pieces. If I’m being completely honest, I tend to not care as much for solo guitar covers of songs, but the way Sam plays his guitar makes me reconsider that stance.
It’s a great tribute to the song, as it takes me right back to the Rito Village, speaking to all the Rito while enjoying the atmosphere and scenery. In fact, I was enjoying it so much that the simple two minute length of the song felt more like 10 seconds! It made me forget about time for just a short moment, and in my book that’s the mark of a truly great piece of music.
