I do not understan the "escapist's haven" section...

I don't understand the escapist's haven, what are you supposed to do and what's the point? What is this about characters and RPG's and so on; can someone explain this to me?

This guide is a bit old (it was written long before the name "Escapist's Haven" even existed), but it provides a pretty good introduction to the concept of the EH.
