The Adoption Cottage

After wandering around the Kokiri Forest for a while, you come across a humble cottage tucked away in a corner not yet explored. Crossing the bridge over the tranquil ravine, you begin to think the cottage looks like it leapt off the page of a childhood storybook. You creak open the door and find dozens of people happy to greet you. A banner, a little worn with time, hangs idly over the fireplace reading “Welcome to Zelda Universe!”

You take a seat on a cozy couch with a cup of hot cocoa, and wait to see who sits next to you.

Welcome to the ZU Adoption Cottage!

Here, newcomers can find a well-respected adopter to help show them the ropes of Zelda Universe. Adopters are there to help give you advice when you make a mistake, to help you get aquainted with the website, to help you with any questions you may have (espcially helpful if you’re a little shy to ask ), and to be there as a friend.

For those seeking adoption:
Adoption is thoroughly encouraged, as it’s a great way to make a friend and have a trustworthy person to fall back on if you need help. If you don’t know what to do, talk to your adopter. If you feel like you’ve been wrongfully accused, talk to your adopter. If there’s anything you need, talk to your adopter. They are there for you!

For those who wish to become an adoptor:
If you want to become an adopter, please keep in mind that your new member is depending on you to learn the ropes of the forum. You need to always be kind, yet firm. Remember to always respect your new member, and that you cannot abandon them. If you want to help them with something, but don’t know how, you can always ask a moderator for advice! Remember: the future of the forum lies in you!


So, here are the rules!
(Mostly copied from the previous thread, I know. =P)

~ Adoptees (newcommers)~

You should consider adoption if you’ve been a member for one day to two months, or you feel you still need some help. You can ask to be adopted here, as well as in your introduction thread (if you've created one) on the New Member’s Board.



~ Conditions for potential Adopters ~

• When you apply to be an adopter, bear in mind that the mods will be judging you not only on your people skills, but how you conduct yourself on the forums in general.
• This includes a general good use of spelling, grammar and detailed posts.
• Remember, as an adopter, you are an example to your adoptee, so it's no good to make a member who is spammy an adopter, as the new member will not be encouraged to be the best they can be.
• Also - don't try to be sneaky and PM a mod with a perfect message with correct spelling and grammar if you do not post like that normally, as the mods will also check your past posts to make sure your posting style is acceptable.

~ Conditions for Adopting ~

• You must be a member for at least 3 full months. (Join on January 1st, you get to apply on April 1st.)
• Minimum of 50 posts.
• In order to adopt, send Mattocks or Dog Dog 123 a PM where you explain why you want to be an adopter and why you think you’re suited for it. Name the PM “Why I want to adopt” or something similar.
• Once the PM is received, they'll look it through. If they find you suited for adoption (this is judged by your behaviour on the boards), you can go ahead and adopt.
• If they for some reason think you are not suited for adoption, they will let you know why, so you can change and maybe be able to adopt later. If you're rejected by one mod, do not go to the other and ask. It won’t be hard for us to figure this behavior out. It will result in a warning/infraction, and your privilege to adopt permanently revoked.
• You’re only able to adopt one newbie every two weeks. If there's a lot of new members and no one that offers adoption, you may take more than so. Use common sense.
• Maximum of 2 newbies/adopter. Don't take more newbies than you can handle.
• Newbies are not toys. Think of them as little forum users.
• Guard your newbie, help him/her out, and be a good parent.

~ Chat ~

• When you want to be adopted, please let us know in boldface font in this thread.
• When you have been approved of adopting, please tell us in boldface font in this thread.
• When you want to show that you're still available for Adoption/Adopting, you might, in some cases, post in this thread. No ranting though, please.
• When you feel that your newbie is ready to take on the world of ZU on its own, please let us know in boldface font in this thread.
• When you have adopted someone, adopter, please let us know in boldface font in this thread.
• Remember, you can PM someone asking to be adopted, or you can ask them in their introduction thread. However, both the adopter and adoptee must be in agreement. The new member has the final say in who adopts them in situations with multiple adopters.
• Mild chit chat is expected, but please don’t make it excessive. Use good judgment, and take conversations to PM.
• Getting to know your adopter/adoptee does not belong in this thread, please take it to PM.
• In the event that multiple adopters approach a new member, that member will not be considered "adopted" until he/she says so in this thread. In such an instance, the new member will get to choose who they would like to be adopted by.

Approved adopters:
Since this is a brand new, thread we need a brand new list of adopters! If you were previously approved for adoption, you can PM myself to have yourself placed on the new list.

If you’ve never been approved to be an adopter, and you think now is the time, please read the “Conditions for Adopting” section earlier in this post, and PM me, Kasuto, with an application. Please just send a pm containing a short paragraph explaining why you believe you're suited for this responsibility. Be sure to put something in the title to indicate what you are messaging about. Keep in mind that your posting style previous to the message will be taken into consideration as well as after.

If you change your username, you can PM myself, DogDog 123, or Mattocks to have it changed.

Adopters may choose to sport a button in their signature. If you do so, please edit it so it links directly to the Adoption Cottage. =)

In a way, yes. You don't have to PM saying why you'd like to adopt (like you did the very first time), all you have to do is say "I'd still like to be an adopter", and they'll check if you were on the previous list and put you on the new one. The way I see it, this is a great way for Bex and Margaret to see which adopters are still active in the board whom still want to adopt. What newbie wants an adopter that's rarely online to help them? This isn't new, SuperDecimal had to do the same thing when he was running it, so they're just doing it again.

Well I am letting my 2 adopted kids into ZU, so I guess I'll adopt again!

I'm letting sorrie go because he never askes for my help so I assume he doesn't need it.

WARNING TO ADOPTERS:
Do not make posts that say "Well, is anyone looking to get adopted?" or "I wanna adopt someone..."

Unless you JUST got approved to adopt, these types of posts are just unnecessary spam.

EVERYONE: Don't forget to bold the important things like
"I have adopted So-and-so," or "I am releasing so-an-so", or "Will someone adopt me?"
