A Link to the Past

Am I the only one who doesn't get this title? It makes more sense it it says "Link to the Past" as in like Link goes to the past... Although he doesn't "go to the past" in the game. So then I thought of it as "a 'link' to the past" as in a "link" between past and present. Even though you use the Magic Mirror to go to the Dark World, it isn't really the "past" is it? The Dark World is just supposed to be Ganon's World that he wants to make into the real Hyrule or something if I remember correctly. It's been at least five years since I played ALttP.

My theory about this is the back story that the game plays for you about the sages sealing the Golden Land and I also think when they say "A Link", I think they're referring to how the maidens, Ganon, and Link are continuing very controversial event's that their Ancestors died doing. Hence the title, "A Link To The Past".

But hey, that's just my theory. There might be someone who thought it out more than I have and probably have a more plausible explanation than what I just gave you. =]

[EDIT]By the way, I meant to add the connection each of the characters had to the "past".

7 Maidens = 7 Sages

Ganon = Evil Forces in the past trying to obtain the Triforce.

Link = One of the Knights of Hyrule. Most likely a general or some other high ranking person in the king's military. (Considering he would have the same bloodline as Link.)[/EDIT]

The original title was 'Triforce of the Gods'. Nintendo of America decided to cry over the name and change it to avoid lawsuits instead of having a pair and keeping it.

What do you mean by lawsuits???

I'm just curious because I don't understand why they would do that.

I think it had something to do with the 'of the gods' part. I guess they were worried they would offend some religious people.

Although, religious boy cots are more realistic than lawsuits, they wanted to avoid both.

Well, that's pretty gay of NoA. =/ Although, I have grown quite fond of the title "A Link to The Past".

As to the origin, Nintendo of America probably wanted to make a pun on their misconception of ALttP coming before LoZ/AoL.

I don't doubt him. I enjoy a history lesson about Zelda anytime someone wants to give me one. =] I actually learned something from this. =] So yeah, Kudo's for both of you for telling me this. ^_^

Yeah, thanks for all the feedback guys. It's kind of lame though... I would've preferred "Triforce of the Gods."

I didn't mean I wanted to get it changed back. Only meant that name would've been better, in my opinion.

It is a link as in a connection. Because the prolouge says Ganon was sealed away by sages. The connection of past events and the current events of ALttP where you must save the desended maidens of those sages.

Well, I try not to over think these things. XD What you and I said were basically common knowledge. But a lot of Zelda fanatics want to complicate things with their theories. =p (I'm not saying they're wrong. I'm just saying they could just try to accept it as it seems instead of trying to make the pieces fit when they clearly don't. XD)

Wait, what? No, there being a link between past events has nothing to do with the name. The story of the sages sealing away the triforce and such was just a back story, it has no real affect on actual gameplay.

We never said it effected the game play. =/ We're just saying that they are connected to the past and they're pretty much taking over the roles that their ancestors died doing. This is common knowledge. It even says that the sages are related to the maidens and all that crap. We were basically stating that they are connected to the past events. (Which they are.) And that explains the title "A Link to The Past".

Wait, so you're saying that since the characters in the game all have parents it's called 'A Link to the Past'?

Well then why isn't every game named like that?

Americans whine always about religion. The original Fire Temple music had to be changed because it seemed like Near-Eastern chant. They don't even let people teach religion in regular schools because not everyone follows the same religion. And a name referring to "God" is blasphemy no matter what god it points towards it is always an issue for Americans.

I believe it's called A Link to the Past because isn't Link related by blood to the hylian soldiers who helped the sages seal Ganon? I remember something about that being said in the game.
