Best way to play original LoZ besides NES?

I don't have a NES so I want to know what the best way is to play the game out of these choices:

Get NES in Animal Crossing
Collector's Edition Disc
Classic NES Series for GBA
Virtual Console

Use an emulator and play it on your computer for free.

Out of those choices I'd say getting the Classic NES series for GBA is the way to go, though.

If you want more bang for your buck, then go with the Collectors Edition. With that you get LoZ and three other classics.

Virtual Console is another strong(and cheaper) option.

You can't go wrong......

Re: Best way to play original LoZ besides NES?

I have it on Collector's Edition, which was a pretty good deal. I would have got it on Virtual Console but before my first Wii broke, we bought Ocarina of Time and when we got it replaced, they wiped out our games (since they just gave us a new Wii instead of fixing it) and we had to buy it again, so I only get games on Virtual Console if it's my last legal option. (Paper Mario is the only one I've downloaded so far I think)

If I had a GBA/DS, I would definitely go with the Classic NES Series LoZ.

I have it on Virtual Console. It's quite possibly the closest you'll come to feeling like you're playing it on the NES. You get to play it on your TV, etc. I highly recommend doing that. Plus, it's only 500 Wii Points, same as $5 USD! One of the greatest video games of the 8-bit era for really cheap! Great deal!

Oh are you able to suspend play in the Virtual Console version (making it hold the same location you were in)? I thought that was a feature of some of the NES games but I've never had the opportunity to check.

Re: Best way to play original LoZ besides NES?

If I had the money, I would buy a nes and buy LOZ so I could get the full experience but if your not flossy, then buy the GBA one if you just want to play it. If you want to play it on TV then I suggest that if you don't have the other classics, get the collectors edition disc. If you just want to play it on TV and nothing else, virtual console is the way to go.

Re: Best way to play original LoZ besides NES?

OK Virtual Console is the best to go. You get it for 500 wii points. You dont have to go through the trouble of trying to find it at stores. It is actually on a T.V, which is how it was supposed to be experienced. If you but all the games you get from the virtual console cheaper than the collectors edition.

Virtual Console Prices in US dollars:
MM-10
OoT-10
LoZ-5
AoL-5
Total-30 US dollars

The average copy of Collectors Edition is around 40$
10$ difference not including tax or gas money to go out and buy the CE, or shipping fees.
Plus you can buy ALttP for 8 dollars on the virtual console which the CE dosent have. ALttP is easily one of the best LoZ games!.

So why buy Collectors Edition when it is cheaper on the virtual console?

Sorry if this is too much.

EDITlus the CE MM is crap.

First things first, allow me to personally welcome you to Zelda Universe.

Secondly, i believe the Virtual Console is the way to go my friend. It gives near enough the original experience that was first presented when the game was launched. And i believe you can use the Wii-mote as a NES style controller as both have a D-Pad and 2 buttons.

You can. Also, soon they are coming out with a NES controller that plugs into the GC slot on your wii. There will also be a SNES and N64 controller with the same functions.

Having them portable beats VC to me... just...

So I say GBA.

Though DSi's fudged that up a bit.

Emulator is the best way. Free, and you can program the controls to any key on the keyboard.

Re: Best way to play original LoZ besides NES?

In my opinion, Virtual console is the best way to go.

It's only 5 bucks, and a sideways wii remote feels so natural, but you can also try a classic controller or a gamecube controller if you wish, it's right there in your Wii menu or SD card menu ( Much better than having to load up Animal Crossing to play if you ask me. ) And you can use the intterupt save feature to continue playing where you last left off ( unless you turn off the Wii without going to the wii menu first. ) All the save data is put onto your Wii, so you won't have to worry about your memory card corrupting.

Animal crossing has the Legend of Zelda on it, but you aren't likely to get it unless you cheat, and then it's a pain havng to go to whatever room has the NES in it to play... and you may forget you are playing it with AC, and you just turn off the system. That means you have to listen to Mr. Resetti when you want to play some more.

It's true that the collectors disk has other games on it... but Majora's mask is prone to freezing, and it supposedly has sound issues. You are also forced to play with a gamecube controller. ( I didn't mind using the GC controller so much, but I prefer the Wiimote )

Emulators are free. I like paying money for good games, especially if they're cheap, to support Nintendo and the Zelda series, not that either one needs support or anything. ( I'm waiting to support a particular OTHER series, should it ever finally land on VC after crossing some big hurdles. ) And it does have a much better feature than the Wii's intterupt save, save states... but those things are like the ultimate cheat, so it's hard to not want to abuse it. I also don't care for playing games with my keyboard. It is also illegal, and should only be used to play games that are not, or most likely never will be available to play in your country. ( I'll be deleting my Gameboy roms once DSi starts getting GB VC games or something like that )

EDIT: Silly me. I forgot that you could play the game on a gameboy advanced too, with the "Classic NES series" games. I'd imagine that'd be pretty good for playing the game, but it would most likely lack the intterupt save feature the Wii has.

I have LoZ and AoL for Collector's edition and GBA. I recommend the GBA or Virtual console though.
