Re: Link's Awakening (i know its a handheld..read the thread)

I remember first picking up Link's Awakening, the orginal. I was so distracted by the bad graphics, I didn't think I'd be able to play it. But man, Link's Awakening is easily one of the best video games EVER. My favorite 2D game, it's amazing. @_@ I would love a SNES version of LA, but it did fine on its own without it.

Re: Link's Awakening (i know its a handheld..read the thread)

Eh, I like how it crated its own feel instead of just copying the groundwork A Link to the Past laid. The graphics really do hold a charm to them, especially when coloured, and I the amazing soundtrack just wouldn't hold up as well if it was in 16-bit. The composers really did a great job in creating fantastic atmospheres with the Game Boy's limited sound capabilities. The stuff they pulled was something that woulndn't really work on a SNES. Well, at least that's what I feel.

Also, am I the only one who isn't really all out for recycled backgrounds from game to game? Seriously, if anything I'd at least want the game to make itself unique in some way, not just show the exact same stuff again!

I think that they should start making GB and GBA games available for download on the DSi since they have gotten rid of the GBA slot.

They should put up LA, OoS and OoA... I would love that!

Re: Link's Awakening (i know its a handheld..read the thread)

I personally wouldn't want LA to have been for the SNES, because it was my first Zelda game, and the nostalgia I have for it is associated with the graphics and music. Obviously, I'd probably feel different if it had actually been for the SNES. But as it is, even the color in LADX bothers me, because it's not the way I originally experienced it.

Re: Link's Awakening (i know its a handheld..read the thread)

I didn't think the graphics were bad, being what they were (I grew up on the old school NES and original GB games - in fact I bought my first GB the year it came out ^^) Still one of my fav, up there with ALTTP and MM. And TP! Though I did love them all.

I do agree though that they should start putting out GB games for the Virtual console though. That would be awesome! (Though I do still have my brick [though it barely works anymore, button wise], my Pocket, my GBA, 2 GBASPs, Super GameBoy, and my GameBoy Player)

Why wouldn't they have them on the DSI VC? The whole point behind the VC is to give gamers a chance to play some awesome things they missed out on without worrying about the cartridges going to waste.

Comparing the size of that image to these two of the light and dark world from ALttP has made me realize that LA's setting is small compared to ALttP's.

LA is more likely to follow AoL not ALttP in the plot line.

A lot of the charm from LA and the Oracles comes from their scaled down graphics and music. I wouldn't mind A DX...DX edition with improved visuals though.

It's much smaller than ALttP though. As a SNES sequel people would have complained it was too small. As a GB game it's massive.

LA was amazing. I remember coming to the party way late with this one, yet was completely blown away by its quality. The graphics are outdated, sure, but the gameplay, sound and just general feel of the game is rivaled by few in the whole series. Definitely a must play if you haven't already.

yea it wouldve been cool to make it for the SNES just to be able to play it on a bigger screen though. I still have a Gameboy color and the screen is so small and dim

It's perfect as it is. I'm not a "no remake" purist, but I just think the 8-bit Zeldas were fine as they were.
