A "Link" to the past
I just noticed somthing...
I always thought a link to the past meant Link the character,to the past. But i just realized that it could be a link like a connection... i never really thought about it... what do you think? |

Re: A "Link" to the past
i don't get the "to the past" part at all. WHy didn't they name it "The Legend of Zelda: The Maidens' Crystals" or something like that. "A Link to the Past" is a pun, as it links the two meanings of link (bad pun, again), but the title still has no meaning that i can see.

Re: A "Link" to the past
I would get OoT being called a link to the future, but i dont get the title of a link to the past at all.

Re: A "Link" to the past
i know, but a link to the future, well, that title would make sence. a link to the past's title has nothing to do with the game. a link to the future would work for oot. oot's name is better than alttf, but alttf would have worked. alttp... off topic title...

Re: A "Link" to the past
They were making fun of you... 'A Link to the player, this is old news'. Link here is being used as an association with a piece of advice, or something like that. Didn't the game talk a little bit about a war fought in the past? Maybe that was it... or perhaps Ganon came back, like he did in past games, to wreak havoc... I don't know, just trying to defend it as best as I can...

Re: A "Link" to the past
It's called "A Link to the Past" because it takes place 100 years (or more, can't remember) before the first two Zelda games. I think this is on the original box the game came in, but again, I can't remember.

Re: A "Link" to the past
Uhh, no.
You all fail. A Link to the Past means nothing. It was a quick replacement that Nintendo made to the real title, Triforce of the Gods, to not offend anybody about religion or anything... Really, political correctness is sad.

Re: A "Link" to the past
This is what is discussed on these forums. Why things are done how they are done. So it doesn't matter if it's just a name, to us, it's worth discussing!

Re: A "Link" to the past
I personally believe that it is named "A Link to the Past" because you have to travel through the dungeons rescuing the Maidens, because the maidens were the descendants of the seven ancient wise-men who sealed the golden power away in the sacred realm.
Edit: But in all reality, Admiral Black is right, they used it as a fill-in. To avoid hordes of people complaining due to lack of religious tolerance.
