A Link to the Past - epic for its time
I've been thinking about this and ALTTP was unbelievable for it's time. The level designs, the graphics, how long the game is The boss battles were absolutely awesome, especially the final battle with Ganon. I also like how there's a story in it. In my opinion, it was the best Zelda game for the NES/SNES.

I agree. Alttp was (and still is) an amazing game. After all, it DID come up with the formula that helped OoT become what it is today. I like the game, it was truly beautiful....

Re: A Link to the Past - epic for its time
ALttP was epic, but there are several other SNES of equal high quality.
Several square games such as Chrono Trigger, FF VI and Secret of Mana. And there's also several other nintendo games, Super Metriod being (in my opinion) the prime example, which I think even bests ALttP and the others in terms of being most unbeleiveable for it's time.

A Link to the Past is up there with Final Fantasy VI and Fire Emblem 4 in terms of epicness.

Re: A Link to the Past - epic for its time
ALttP was the game that made the series known to the entire world. It was a brake through and the second brake through for the series came with OoT. They stand on equal height at their own time. The only thing more revolutionary in OoT that wasn't in ALttP was the fact that OoT was 3D.

Re: A Link to the Past - epic for its time
Indeed it is. I missed the playing the NES Zeldas first time around, but after having played them LttP is still my favourite.
As a kid, it just swept me away. Especially the story. Kidnapped maidens decended from Sages, a puppet bad guy, a young kid dressed in green saving the world, and an alternate dark world. And a legendary blade hidden deep in an ancient forest, of course. It still sweeps me away now. I need to play it. *runs off*

Re: A Link to the Past - epic for its time
I agree completely. The game still has magic in it. It's still fun to play. The game was long and it was hard. I had the hand held version of it and I kept trying to play it like a hand held game. But it wasn't till I started playing it like a console game (since that's what it is) did I get into it and deal with it's length. I have um Fiercegoddess from the old Nintendo boards for helping me both beat it and have the will to beat it. I was stuck and pissed sooo many times. I felt so proud after beating that game. No other game I have beaten has matched it yet.

Re: A Link to the Past - epic for its time
I agree totally. It's my fave Zelda game hands down and I still play it today. I've always thought the dungeons were quite long, they may not have always been terribly hard (although some were - Skull Woods I'm looking at you! You were the Water Temple of 1992 lol!) but most took some time which contributed to the length of the game as a whole, which is good for a console game.
Just thinking about what you have to do reminds you of how long it is. - Dungeon/Palace - getting your sword and rescuing Zelda - Pendant of Courage - Pendant of Wisdom - Pendant of Power - Battle Agahnim - Master Sword - Crystal 1 - Crystal 2 - Crystal 3 - Crystal 4 - Crystal 5 - Crystal 6 - Crystal 7 - Ganons Tower - Ganon Not to mention a whole bunch of side quests with many items and quite a few games too (: And also OoT has the same format in terms of the Stones and the Medallions which is why I think it's pretty high up in the favourite lists of people who like ALttP too (:
