Parapa Palace empty?

Hi, I just got a used copy of Zelda II and started a new quest and for some odd reason there are no keys, candle or horsehead in parapa palace. anybody have a clue why this might be?

Used copy. As in, played already. Is it possible that the previous owner has already completed this dungeon?

It is not possible because once you complete a dungeon in AoL it is sealed so you can no longer reenter.
However, it sounds like the previous owner may have beaten HorseHead and not obtained the crystal.

It's only sealed if you beat the boss AND get the dungeon item. If the previous player didn't get the Candle, Parapa Palace will still be open.

the only thing is, this happened on a brand new quest that I started. I am completely at a loss here.
also, I did notice the crystal thing at the very end of the dungeon but was unable to retrieve it and there were no locked doors anywhere throughout the palace and the candle is not in my possession.

That's very strange. Unfortunately, it sounds like your game is glitched. =/

Wow thats weird. I played that game a zillion times as a kid and again as I got older and I've never heard of anything like that happening. Did you try restarting again and see if it happened a second time?

Hmm... there are enemies but no Horsehead or candle? That's definitely weird... The only thing I could suggest is to restart the file again and see if it happens.

You can also try starting up a different file and see if that helps.

The same thing happened to me except thee was no enemy's lol. I didn't complin because it was probably the easiest Zelda for me. I beat it with no enemies. Lol no Dark Link

Oh wow...so it's more common than I thought. O_o Can you get the crystal at the end of each palace? I would want to see a video of that...sounds interesting! But then again, it takes away from EVERYTHING that makes TAoL a good game.

Wow, lol. I wouldn't mind that happening to Death Mountain. >_> *Sigh*

Well if it was a used NES cartridge, it's likely to be the cause of the battery. The original LoZ would sometimes delete its own save files because of the battery. Just remember, the NES cartridges weren't all that great back then.

Hmmm... have you tried the other games to see if they work? (Excluding MM for obvious reasons). Have you tried it on a different memory card?

CE is glitchy in general mostly because it was rushed.
