The Dark Sun

Something I've been wondering about for a while. Here's the top of the Pyramid of Power in the middle of the Dark World.



This is a picture of the sun setting behind the two major chunks of Bizarro Death Mountain, with Ganon's tower neatly silhouetted on the one to the left.

Here's ZU's map of the Dark World, for reference.

On the map, Nega Death Mountain is mostly north and a bit east, whereas on the horizon it's north and slightly west. This is maybe a slight oversight or miscommunication. What is most certainly more than a slight oversight/miscommunication is that the sun is either rising or setting to the north.

So, I'm wondering, is Link to the Past's compass off by about 90 degrees throughout or is it only the Dark World's weirdness? Or, the least interesting option, did nobody at Nintendo happen to notice?

That's just a technical mistake... remember that the Pyramid of Power was the last thing on ALttP to be redone, it was different in Beta.

You mentioned that the sun is in the wrong direction...right? I guess I read your post too fast... sorry.

That it was a different sun and scenery? Really it was, unless i am wrong...

Where can I see the beta version of it?

Look in unseen 64, I think I saw it... probably in the forums... I hope that what I saw wasn't a fake...

Hey Mandrag if Four Swords had the same places as ALttP? Maybe that means that what I saw was that game's version of the Pyramid... sorry if this makes you waste a lot of time.

they prolly didnt even realize what they were doing (nintendo), they prolly just made a backdrop with no real thought someone would catch it.

Well, if you flip the ALttP map counterclockwise so that the sun is setting in the west, not the north, then the ALttP map looks a whole lot like the Wii version of TP's map. Probably coincidence, though.

The sun is probably just a mistake or a small error the programmers made while trying to make the background look impressive. After all, the mountains wouldn't look half as cool if that sun wasn't there.

I did that too, before I posted. I decided against mentioning it since Wii TP's non-canonical.

if you flip it 90 degrees in the oppoite direction it would be like the GCN TP, and morning.

Well, 4 main landmarks match up and the Zora grave in TP Kakariko goes right by the Zora's River of aLttP. But Snowpeak doesn't make any kind of sense in conjunction with aLttP's map and the Lost Woods make a hell of a jump.

From the map, Link should be aligned with that bridge between the two things, I can't see the bridge on the backdrop though!

I'm probably absolutely wrong though..

i don't know much about how the sun moves in real life, but you guys have to be right...the sun doesn't look normal.

Hmm... Okay friends what a discussion that I reading here... Okay the sun is maybe on the wrong place or maybe not I'm not sure about that... Dark world is on chaos and maybe the world is not normal than the Hyrule friends... Okay the Twilight Princess and A Link to the Past of that serie named The legend of Zelda games... Because after the part Ocarina of Time is the Timeline splits in two ways (Adult Link) goes to the way from Twilight Princess and the other way (Young Link) goes to the track from A Link to the Past and starts the same place and castle named Hyrule Castle (A Link to the Past) you rescue the Princess Zelda from the Dungeon of Hyrule Castle and (Twilight Princess) you helped to rescue you out the Dungeon of Hyrule castle from Twilight Princess named Midna friends that's the answer maybe of the Chaos on Twilight and Golden Land (Dark World) I hope it will helps you out on you quetions dear friends of The legend of Zelda games!

regarding the sun setting/rising to the north:

has anybody thought that the Dark World as we saw it may be in the southern part of the southern hemisphere of the planet, and it was summer?

this is all assuming that the Dark World follows the same physics as planet Earth and Hyrule as we've seen in later games...
