A Link To The Past

I never played A Link To The Past but it looks like a amazing game its always in the top 10 when you see top 100 best games list. I was thinking of getting it for gameboy should I? Also is there any difference on the gameboy game?

Re: A Link To The Past

YES, BUY IT.

I think the only difference is that Link now has a voice (as in, yells when he attacks and stuff), but other than that, I'm not sure. Buying ALttP for the GBA was how I finally got to the play the game, seeing how I didn't have a SNES. So, yes, I highly recommend it. You won't regret it.

Well if you get it for the GBA you'll get another Zelda game with it, Four Swords. Although FS is a multiplayer only game so like most Zelda fans you probably won't get the opportunity to play it.

The gameplay is virtually identical except for a few things that can be unlocked from FS and the Ice Palace been changed around a bit. The changes are mainly audial and graphical. Like dany the dot mentioned, Link now has a voice which is the same as his voice from OoT and MM, some find this annoying but I think its a nice little touch (depends who you are). Also the sprites have been altered slightly. Oh yeah, and the Chris Houllian room (which was a little easter egg in the SNES game) has been removed.

Whether you get it on SNES, GBA or Wii Virtual Console (the same as the SNES version), just make sure you get it since it's arguably the best Zelda game in the series. I would personally reccomend the GBA version for FS (even if you can't play it, it's still nice having it as part of your collection) and the graphical and audial improvements.

It's an awesome game, easily my second favorite Zelda game.

But yeah, Dany the Dot was right, one of the only changes is the fact that Link has a voice.

About a year ago I traded the game for a pair of buzz magnets. I look back now and almost cry at my stupidity.

- If you remember the Super Nintendo version, in order get a 000 Finish
after beating the game, you had to go through the whole game without
dying and saving. For this version, you are allowed to save as much as
you want and still receive the 000 Finish as long as you do not see a
"Game Over" screen.

What? O_o So you basically had to finish the game in one sitting to get the 000 Finish?

Yep. In the SNES version instead of Game Overs, there were Games Played, which included saving and quiting as well as deaths. It's the major reason I still haven't gotten a 000 Finish.

That's a good question.
I have the GBA version and I certainly would recommend it. It's a great game.

what...? as I remember it, save/quit did not count as death - but resurrecting Link with a fairy in a bottle did. ...so you had to use the fairy before Link ran out of hearts.

I could be thinking of the GBA version, but I'd almost swear this was true to the SNES version - I thought I had the 000 finish when I was a kid. I may have to dust off the system tomorrow and find out; this is probably going to bug me til I do.

...anyway, dany, you may be able to scrounge up a twin famicom somewhere and the old game...I think the game's gonna be the hardest to find, so good luck if you do. there's nothin wrong with the GBA version though - it's just some minor details here and there.
but you should definitely get one version or another. it is made of win.

Haha, I'll probably just end up buying it on the VC and buy a Wii classic controller. I just don't like playing ALttP on a portable console... I feel like it should be enjoyed in a bigger screen. I don't think there's anything wrong with the GBA version either, but I'd rather play such a big Zelda adventure on a TV screen.

I prefer portables for some reason. Maybe cause I can be more lazy and lie down. Or maybe its because when I go out I can play it.

I prefer the SNES version. Classic.
It's my favorite game of all-time.

BTW, you can probably get a cheap used SNES on ebay, as well as an ALTTP game.

Re: A Link To The Past

A while back, I was skeptical of ALttP, but I simply adore it now. A friend gave me the GBA version for free, and I've never played the SNES version, but I still think you should go for the GBA one. It's just handy to have a portable game.

There are several changes, check YouTube, search on changes between GBA and SNES or something to see them.

Both the SNES and the GBA is awsome tho.
