ALttP Difficulty
As I'm sort of a new member here, I have noticed that a lot of people talk about aLttP as if it is impossibly hard. I was wondering how hard people though LttP was, because for me at eight, it was hard, but being fairly new to video games (only plaing Sonic 2, DKC, and DKC2 before LttP) I didn't expect differently.
I can beat LttP no problem now, as most people can with OoT, the original, or even Majora's Mask. It is my favorite, and it surprises me hard people think it is. Particularly because I seem to be pretty lame at Zelda compared to some people. LttP was my first game, and I don't think it is that hard. So how hard was LttP for you, why, and if it wasn't the hardest, which was? |

Re: ALttP Difficulty
I was about as hard as LA, but not as hard as AoL.
It had a nice difficulty, where there was challenge, but not frustrating anxiety. So why did you title it ALttP first?

Re: ALttP Difficulty
I think it had a nice difficulty level. But the main reason it was hard for me was that it was my first Zelda game, and one of my first, say 8 video games, so I was kind of new to gaming. So things that we take for granted, like say shooting an arrow when you see an eye in a dungeon, weren't as obvious back then. Many of the Zelda trademarks were invented in ALttP, so that explains why many people found it hard. I found OoT much, much easier, which is understandable, as I had played ALttP before, and OoT is very similar to it.
I really hope the next Zelda can feel as fresh as ALttP felt back then. |

Re: ALttP Difficulty
In general, the 2D Zelda games are much more difficult because enemies and traps are harder to avoid. Like Sherm, I rate ALttP the 3rd hardest game.

Re: ALttP Difficulty
ALttP was a veyr impossible game when you onyl 6 and trying to beat the turtle rock boss and have no idea what to do, but know the only part i hate is fighting the ice dungeon by god i hate it so much, and for the difficulty from when i first got it it went from easy to hard which is good to start thinking "hey, this game is quite easy," then thinking new the end"man that was a hard game"

Re: ALttP Difficulty
I thought that LA was easy, even when I played it for my first time.
I found ALttP to be hard, but not as hard as it used to be. When I was around six or so, I had no idea what to do. Then you have things such as that desert palace which I found hard. I still sometimes find it a tad difficult.

Re: ALttP Difficulty
For some reason, even though this game is considered among the harder Zelda games, I never found it all that difficult. I played it when it first came out (I was 12 then--yes, I'm old), and sure, I got stuck at a few places. But other than that, I've always been a pro at this game. I only played LA for the first time a couple years ago, and that game was even easier for me, like second nature. By contrast, I almost consider the cream puff 3D games like WW and TP a bit harder.
I guess this is because I come from the older generation that's more at home with 2D games than the 3D ones. |

Re: ALttP Difficulty
Getting used to operating in only two dimensions was a fair enough challenge, but ALTTP really was tough in comparison to the later games. As I just mentioned, the lack of a third dimension made things more difficult right off the bat. However, that was admittedly the least of my problems. The enemies were particularly aggressive and persistent, and because they only needed to come into contact with Link to do damage, I often found myself in a spot where I'd try confront an enemy only for Link to get hit at least three times due to overlapping sprites. The foes were also rather swift.
I needed to quickly get used to facing the guards. At first it was tricky to land a hit without touching their shields or clashing with their swords. Though I finally got the hang of this and also figured out how to efficiently defeat the archers, these enemies would still give me trouble from time to time (usually due to the overlapping sprite issue that I mentioned above). The mines and hidden soldiers were also a challenge in the beginning, and I truly felt that the entire Hylian military wanted Link dead. As the game progressed, enemies did tons of damage. I recall the first time I encountered a snapdragon and lost what seemed like at least eight hearts in just one hit. Even the two hearts dealt by crabs and snakes (well, the snakes might have just taken two hits to kill) in the beginning were a pain. The bosses also had their own tricks. When the last Armos Knight turned red, I had to dart around for quite a bit since I didn't realize that I could slash him out of the air. The rocks kicked up by the Lanmolas were bothersome, and Moldorm was just plain aggravating. Agahnim, however, was disappointingly easy in both encounters. To save time, Let me just say this; A Link to the Past was one of the few Zelda games that I'd truly consider difficult in the long run.

Re: ALttP Difficulty
It was hard for me the first time I played it because I was new to the game (obviously
) and the Zelda series itself (not my first Zelda game, but one of them) so I didn't really know what I was doing. But on subsequent playthroughs I found it a piece of cake. People whine about games such as TP, TWW, TMC etc being too easy, that may be true, but if you ask me they've nearly always been fairly easy (even the NES games are easy to a player who knows what they're doing). ALttP is a amazing game don't get me wrong (its one of my favourite games of all time), and although I personally find it easy to complete (with all the items and most of the heart containers), it isn't too easy and is a fairly nice level of difficulty. On your first playthrough it will seem like a impossibly difficult game, when you play through it again you will find it a LOT easier. ![]()

Re: ALttP Difficulty
ALttP is easy, but it's the best 2D game by far.
But, it was hard in the begining, it was the third Zelda game I played (After OoT and MM).
