magic bat in alttp

you know that bat thing in ALTTP who curses you?


I never knew if that curse was good or bad...should I get the curse or completley ignore it?



this may sound stupid...but ive always just gotten the curse thinking it was good but the bat says its bad...so is it?

Just think that the evil-side bat was sarcastic about it being a curse. It's all good.

He has emotional issues. He wants to be evil, but he's just too gosh darn polite. If you notice, he says something along the lines of "I am going to curse you!!! ...is that okay with you, sir?" Then at the end, he wishes you luck, and tells you to have a nice day.
While he says that he halves your magic meter, he actually halves the amount you use, basicly doubling it. :3 So yeah, that guy is all good. In fact, he's more then good. He's awsome.

He allows you to use twice as much magic. It looks weird cuz there's a 1/2 on the bar. I think that's what he does, I used to think he reduces your magic to 1/2

Well... think of it like this.
Link has 10 Magic Points. Shooting his Fire Rod takes away 2 points. Once the Bat dude curses Link, he still has 10 Magic Points, but shooting the Fire Rod only takes 1 point.
Get it?
He halves the Magic Power you use, not your actual Magic Power. :3

I just dug out my snes and started playing ALTTP but I always wondered if that bat was something I should avoid or not....I always thought it halved my magic but got it anyway as it felt like I wouldn't be doing everything in the game

Someone once told me that, in doing so, he also doubles the damage you take. I never noticed, but he could be right or he could wrong.

I assume you are giving the example to everyone and not to me at all, because I was only confused when I played the game the first two times back then, just days after its release. That is the correct meaning if you go by numbers.

I never really kept track of how much the magic meter went down for using a spell before and after the magic bat effect. The only time it went empty is when I used the Blue Cane in a Death Mountain Cave. I believe there were only spikes to walk on, with a Piece of Heart at the end. It's a pretty cool way to get one.

Also, I know you can use two items at one time, like throwing the boomerang then using the hookshot before it comes back to you, but I don't remember if two magical items can be used that way as well. Maybe the Blue Cane and then a magic spell.

All I really know is that the Fire Rod takes up ahell of a lot of magic, even with the curse.
