Red face Am I a Wimp? (possible spoilers of ALttP)

OK. I have ALttP GBA. I am at the ice palace at the time of this posting (further updates...somewhere...sometime).
Anyhoo, the Dark World is creepy. The music is good, but it gives me goosebumps (whatever they are...). The enemies are really ugly and nightmarish (which is probably the point). Then, there's the landscape. (Imagine you can hear me) AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! (You probably would have gone deaf!) The landscape, with the evil colors and design makes me want to spend most of my playing time in the Light World or a dungeon!
Am I wimpy? Or are other people scared ("creeped" may be a better word) of the Dark World?

It's creepy, but that's how it's meant. I voted "barely" because it's not really scary, just eerie which is how it's supposed to be. I thought they did a great job on it.

Indeed, the Dark World is meant to be an evil and dangerous place that leaves the player uncomfortable with his/her surroundings.

Although, I played OoT before ALttP. The music and atmosphere of the Well and Shadow Temple was creepy and a little scary. However, going through there conditioned me for later going through places like the ALttP Dark World.

I wouldn't call you a wimp. I'd say the Devs were successful in their design.

I was freaked out by the well also. I can't stand it.

As for the Dark World, I prefer to be in the Light World but the music in the Dark World is just too good, anyway, you'll probably get used to it.

The darkworld doesn't really feel that scary. After the forest and shadow temple in OoT (which really didn't phase me as a 10 year old) I find the Darkworld to be a walk in the park (littered with strong enemies, tough puzzles, and the occasional this and that)

I kinda wish Ganon would take over more often. That way, we could see more of this sort of atmosphere.

Dark World is the best part of ALttP. The music is awesome and the preparation for the final showdown with Ganon gets the blood pumping through ones veins!

I don't get what's so evil about the Dark World, it's more like a twisted wonderland. Like Hyrule on crack.

On another note:
Dark World > Light World

Ganon has much better taste than the Goddesses.

None of the GBA games are scary or creepy. It's in a TINY screen in a TINY box, why the hell would it be creepy?
They're freakin' sprites...
But I didn't call you a wimp because everyone has a fear of something, no matter how bizzare.

I reckon it was ... well, not really CREEPY, but it was cool in the regard of it suiting its purpose - a DARK world. I personally liked it better than the Light World, but thats just me...

ALttP, scary? We're talking 16 bit games here. This is the 21st man. That's nothing. Quite frankly, I'm dismayed at the fact that you consider such an old game "scary."

You want scary? Go play some Resident Evil, or Doom, or Silent Hill, or Fatal Frame. If you found ALttP scary though, then you might just have a heart attack while playing any one those games.

You are a complete wimp, Morpheel Man! You're playing Zelda, an adventure game. As an adventurer, stepping into the Dark World should be the equivalent of a fat and hungry guy getting a free pass at a Chinese buffet. Grow a pair and slay some demons!

And be sure to enjoy the Dark World music, it is one of the top 5 musical compositions of all VideoGamedom.

The Dark World is awesome. It has the best music evar, and the trees talk. What's not to like?

Well, I admit I was a bit annoyed by how difficult it is to not die there, but that aside, it's a really cool place.

Well then, it seems like the musicians and the designers did more than their part on programming the game! I suppose it's supposed to be creepy considering you play as a boy who holds the Triforce of Courage (so you must find the courage to play through the whole game). I have a feeling you're one of those people that jump/yelp in their seats when watching a movie (because of the music and the action taken place), am I right? Well if that's the case, I'd highly suggest you not play the Resident Evil games (or even Metroid...and there isn't that much suspence in that game).

Are you wimpy? Sorta, but that's ok, that's the effect the game developers were going for (they find that the more emotion you put into these innanimate characters the more you're going to remember that game, and possibly cary onto the series), and they succeeded.

I don't know if you were well aware, but since ALttP was originally for the SNES, I'll have to move this thread to the NES/SNES Zelda forum (now if you were talking something specifically that could only be found in the GBA version, for example the Four Sword, Four Sword Temple, or the riddles, then I might have kept it in the Handheld Zelda).

*moved*

I didn't think it mattered much, which is why I didn't move it. Besides, most people that play ALttP nowadays are probably playing it on GBA anyway.

I never really played through ALttP all the way. I'm not gonna vote because I don't know your age, though.

But I do like the Light World better, for some reason.

It's not just the sprites. It's the whole atmosphere.

For instance, the first time I played OoT I was creeped out by the well and Shadow Temple. Between the undead enemies, music, and scenery, I felt unnerved having to go through those places.

Compared to the Light World, the Dark World is drearier and filled with more dangerous monsters. In fact, some monsters do look scarier in there than in the Light World. That's what the devs were going for, and it was more successful in some cases than others.

It works much better in 3D, though, because GBA gives you a bird's eye view so you see everything, while something like OoT can have a Redead wait right around the corner.
