ALttP: Is it all it's cracked up to be?

I hate making unoriginal threads, but I have a question that I would like you guys to answer.

I'm a Zelda fan, and have been ever since the NES days. For some reason, I missed out on ALttP. I've never played it.

So, how much fun is this game? Is it worth playing? Should I download it on the VC?

Also, I would appreciate if you guys would post intelligent posts, and don't give one-liners, like:

ALttp is good man, you should get it!

Give me a reaon why you think it's good. Try to convince me to get it, because I am on the fence about getting another game with my 800 points.

It's excellent. It contains the following things that really make it stellar:

A dual-map featuring the light world and dark world. The first of many 'dual world' zelda games [such as OoT's child and adult worlds]

Perhaps the game with the most widely used magic. Wands, spells, canes, a cape...you name it!

It's the first game with a great backstory, and lots of supporting tidbits of information throughout the game to add to it. Overall, an excellent storyline.

More dungeons than any other Zelda game ever, but there's enough stuff to do in between dungeons to keep you interested.

Pretty sure it has more weapons/items than any other 2D Zelda.

Lots of cool upgrades

Epic ending [in my humble opinion]

Oh and two important things I forgot:

Very good music. Not quite on the same level as OoT of course, but for it's time, it was amazing.

Level of difficulty is pretty much perfect. Not too easy as many complain modern Zelda game are, but not frustratingly hard like AoL.

points in its favor:

among the best graphics for a 2D zelda
a whole arsenal of weapons and items, including sword upgrades, a variation of a well-known OoT item which is better than the OoT one, a magic system as deep as AoL's
good music (not a huge variety, but the ones it has are good)
good special effects (sounds strange to say this about a game from 1992, but it's true)
lots of places to explore
13 separate dungeons
good storyline
bosses are a challenge (unlike LoZ)
heart pieces to collect (unlike LoZ and AoL)

point against it (not that many):

enemies aren't that smart, and tend to walk into walls when trying to reach you
instead of having a fun enemies that are tough but fun to fight, dungeons tend to throw 200 or 300 annoying little enemies at you
a good number of enemies are unkillable or instantly respawn, such as beamos, wallmasters (a major annoyance), chain chomps (taken from mario) and the fire-spitting floor tiles from LoZ
you have to beat the same rooms over and over every time you leave to stock up on things

overall it's the best 2D zelda that I've played. If you liked LoZ, expect much more from this one

Do yourself a favor and download it to the VC today!

It combines all the great elements from LoZ and AoL. Exploration, adventure, puzzle solving, you name it. The dungeons aren't as difficult as other 2D games but the challenge is there. Huge world and items are hidden pretty well.

It was one of the first games I downloaded when the VC channel was available.

The replay value is great, it's challenging, and fun. It's definitely worth it.

Go.get.it.NOW.

Yeah you should really get it it has so many upgrades in swords and shields which was very fun to find. I loved the spells for one thing those were so very awesome. The temples are challenging fun and very well thought out and designed. That is why you (and everyone else in the world) should get Alltp

Did you know that it would only take 0.2% (1 / 500) of the US federal budget to buy every American the $20 of wii points it takes to download ALTTP?

Some candidates need to update their campaign issues

Exclamation Oh my God!

It's a dam exciting game with great music, lengthy dungeons and great bosses. If you're an old skool gamer then you've missed an important part of gaming history. This game is defiantly worth playing. The soundtrack and puzzles will keep you inspired!

Ok so what I'm saying is if you've played LA or TMC and really enjoyed these games then you will love ALttP.

A landslide! But get ALttP. It's longer than other games, too. If you count the first levels, it's 11 levels long!

trying not to give spoilers:

13 actually, because the one you visit at the very start of the game, when you rescue ____ from ____ and see your ____ give you his ____ before he ____, has a map and a compass, so it technically a dungeon. And you go back to it right before you enter the ____ and visit the second part of it, the ____ part, that ____ also has its own map and compass so it's a dungeon as well, which is awesome, because that makes 5 separate ____ completed before you ____ the ____ with ____ ____ to ____ ____ ____ and ____ sword ____ ____ ____ ____ the ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ a ____

Well, personally it's my favorite Zelda game as well as my favorite game of all time. So obviously, I'd say get it.

There's really not much more for me to say though, everyone else has already pointed out what makes this game so awesome.

A whole thread dedicated to saying how great my favourite game is

I love tha fact that there's enough to do so that it doesn't end in 20mins, but there isn't too much that it goes on forever and you get sick of it - it's just perfect!

I love the storyline, it's all new info so you're not missing out on anything and it's interesting aswell and that really makes for a good game I think, like OoT.

It's got Ganon!

There's nothing like playing it on classic SNES (get one if you don't already have one, and buy the cartridge instead of spending points!)

It's not insanely difficult but not ridiculously easy.

Lot's to do between dungeons so it's not just boring dungeon after dungeon after dungeon.

I know they're points that other peopl have probably said but I felt the need to say something

An hour ago I said, "Hey, what the hell, I'll download it."

I'm at the part right after the first castle, and the sound of the original theme is breathtaking! It's the best I've ever heard!

Also, I like the graphics. Sorta reminds me of Four Swords for the Gamecube.

The one thing I DON'T like is the lack of the castle town, but really that is nothing too big to complain about.

Thanks for the pointers, guys!

I don't think it is.

I think it's one of the worst Zelda games, IMO.

The game is a 5 out of 5 in my book. ALTTP is fantastic probobly one of the best Zelda Games, even though alot of people claim its very easy, its very fun.

I love this game....

But I'm already stuck!

I don't want help though. I like doing this myself. I have to get that item off of them bookshelf. I don't know how........

DON'T TELL ME!

...Oh, and after I finish the game, I'll probably review it. Probably a video review.
