why is aol the dark sheep?

Zelda 2 Adventure of Link is some times referred to "The Dark Sheep"?
The Game Basically helps us understand why the rest of the series is called "The Legend of Zelda" This one was called Zelda 2 as it was the same link and another zelda.

The game play was OK I loved leveling up.

So why does a majority of fans hate it?

If you love/like it explain

If you hate it explain.

Its referred to as the "Dark Sheep?" Never heard it called that before.

It was mostly hated by fans because it took away from The Legend Of Zelda (the first game) so quickly. It kept the overhead view but it had no hearts, heart pieces, and you had to level up which sort of threw off people. It wasn't a typical style of Zelda the people knew, even though there was only one game out before, they were totally thrown off by the level up/side scrolling fighting part of Adventure Of Link.

It sort of takes from Super Mario Bros. with the side scrolling and Final Fantasy with the leveling up.

I sort of liked it. After you got past the leveling up it had a good storyline. A wizard puts a princess asleep because he can't get the Triforce Of Wisdom to revive Ganon (or something like that) and a hero comes to save the land unknowingly.

No, they did not. AoL was Nintendo born and bred.

Sony only helped with the cdi Zelda's because Nintendo were thinking about getting sony in to help with a cd rom add on. At no point did they have any involvement with AoL.

AoL in my opinion was a great game. It differed from the style we expected but it still served as an awesome game. A good challenge and a great story. The wizard was working for the king of hyrule's son who wanted the throne for himself. He hired the wizard to extract info from Zelda but the wizard went too far and put her to sleep. 8)

Indeed, I rather liked AoL. Were it not for it, there would be no ToC, no magic, no Dark Link, no Temple Music, no Hyrule overworld theme, etc.

Zhero, CDi were partly Sony. AoL had absolutely nothing to do with Sony what-so-ever. You obviously do NOT have any idea what you are talking about.

Philips were behind the CDI development. It was also philips that developed the compact disc, not sony. Also sony didn't even get into the video game market untill 1994, with the release of the playstation in japan. AoL was released in 1988, at a point when sony didn't even consider development. Try an internet search. There is nothing to back up sony working with AoL. It was purely a Nintendo development. XD

It's not "dark sheep", it's "black sheep".

And it is the black sheep of the series because it's different than all the other games.

That's what black sheep means. It's different from the rest.

Black sheep or not, it's still a sheep. Though with a higher level of uniqueness.

Whoever says Aol is the dark sheep or whatever is just stating their opinion. Well although the game is quite hard and can be really fustrating its still fun to play. The difficulty level is what makes the game good to me.

It isn't a negative thing to be the black sheep, it just means it's the most unique.

AoL is a great game. The difficulty level makes the game a tremendous challenge and beating this game is quite possibly the most rewarding in the series.

I guess I kind of understand the reason for the difficulty level. It doesn't stop the game from being very annoying at times, though.

It was just so different from the rest of the games. The leveling system, the difficulty, the 3 lives game over system, all very strange in the Zelda world, and for the record, I liked AoL.

In what way is that racist?

Anyway...I haven't played AoL much, even though it's on The Collector's Edition, which I own...I should play it again sometime. When I did play it, I liked the way it was different from all the others, though...it was also pretty tough! I died a lot.

AoL is a great game. It's one of the best NES adventure games.

Right up there with Bionic Commando, Blaster Master, and Castlevania 3.

Yeah basically it had many different gameplay mechanics compared to most other Zelda games.
  • Action sequences were side-scrolling instead of the overhead view of 2D games.
  • You had exp points and you leveled up.

Um I liked the game. I never got that far though, only reaching up to the point of defeating Horsehead. The battle system was just too intricate for me.

On all zelda sites it says the link in zelda 2 is the same link from zelda 1.

Is that right or are they wrong?

Anyway. I like AoL for it being different. I don't think zelda does enough things different lately. I think it would help the series if they did it.

So I really like AoL even though TWW is my favorite ^^
