You be in charge of re-making Adventure of Link

Heres the deal:

You are left in charge of remaking or completely overhauling Zelda II The Adventure of Link. You must then port it to one of Nintendo's newer systems like the Nintendo Wii or the DS Lite. In what new ways would you innovate the game play? Would you update the graphics to todays' standards or leave it as is? Would you add extras exclusive to your version of the game? Tell me what you would do to put some spark back into this overlooked addition to the Zelda series. Be creative for me please. I'll start so as to lead by example:

..... I would work on remaking AOL for the Nintendo DS. Taking a que from Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64 DS, I would leave the structure of the game as it originally was, and yet add newer content for a look and feel that seems nostalgic yet new. I could update the graphics to match the visual art style of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I have always wanted to see a cell shading version of Link as an adult as opposed to the child we have seen thus far in that art form. Here is how the game would then look.....

The world map would introduce an all new camera system which enables players to pan around to view the world in all the compass directions. You will be given the ability to see it all in first person mode as well, much like in the new Mario or Zelda titles. Of course you could also zoom in and out at will. Battles and dungeons would scale out to be a side scroller still but with improved mechanics. For example, you can adjust the camera to "tilt" or even move the screen up and down within reason, kinda like Super Smash bros. melee. Battles will now officially whisk you away ala Final Fantasy rather than simply plop you smack in the middle of some side scrolling screen all of a sudden.

Here is a good look at what new extras i'll have to offer gamers:

..... At least one new bonus dungeon. Newer spells to discover. The addition of an in game map to guide you along. Enemies are now 3-D on the world map. Enemies have been given more intelligence and are harder to kill. they may better attack or defend now and even have newer skills. considering Link will have also been given greater advantage in this remake as well, this will address the level of difficulty so that it is not too easy nor too difficult. Night and day now occurs and will also play a role in what new secrets you can unlock or places you can go. New weapons and items added. Some are new and some are already familiar to the series. Gannon appears! Find him by unlocking the new bonus dungeon. What incredible new treasure will you find in this hidden new dungeon's depths? Play it and see! Implementation of the button assignment system. Link can now assign spells and items to buttons rather than access the menu all the time now. The touch pad and dual screen will make it easy to assign new spells and items also. Of course Link may now take full advantage of the touch screen to perform attacks and cast all of his magic. Unlock mini games. As you adventure along, you may discover and unlock all new mini games for multi player action. Now introducing NEW GAME PLUS! Beaten the game already? So get the codes to unlock new game plus content. Play as Zelda during your new quest or try your hand at hard mode...the choice is yours!

Here's my remake for the Nintendo Ds/Ds Lite:

The top screen would show all the gameplay and would function as the regular tv screen when playing the regular Adventure of Link.

The bottom screen however. Would hold some sort of an inventory(Spells,Minimap, Experience points and so on). Also, I would add some extra dungeons and more interactive villages with villagers that didn't say the exact same thing over and over again.

That's basically what i would add...And perhaps some extra spells.

I would put the remake on the Wii Virtual Console, if it was too large I guess it would be release on Wii.

The game would be mostly 2D, however towns would now be like the town in alttp, with a top down view, and villagers would do a better job of informing you of how it ties into the rest of the zelda story.

The side scrolling portions of the game would be in "2.5D", like an isometric type view that they have been using in SSB and the later mega man x games. This would be so that you could tilt the will remote from side to side to perform rolls and dodges around your enemies. You would only be able to dodge 3 or 4 times before becoming dizzy. You could put this on DS and use the left and right buttons to dodge, but I'd enjoy a 2D Wii downloadable game more. I don't know what the actual costs would have to be to make profit like nintendo wants, but it'd sell for 12-18 dollars.

I would also make the experience system a little more forgiving, and give more experience in general, to make the focus of the game exploring rather than grinding up in level so that it is more like all other zelda games.

I would remake it for the Wii in 3D, but the time I got my mits on it, It would be vastly diffrent but with the same core.

--Storyline--
I would try and refrence other storylines to put the game in itself, make new questions, and fill in a little answers. Stick with the story, but It can be told far far far better, Probably hire some professionals. Link probably wouldn't even get to the Palace where the game starts until a hour into the game at best.

--Atmosphere effects and Graphics--
Put in alot of atmosphere effects in serious design and dark theme like MM, Leaves falling from the trees, Link gets wet, Orange sunsets filtering threw the trees. Also give Hyrule one arcecture theme, (accept for ruins) as It was just silly on TP, But even with a similar theme, the towns and buildings can all look diffrent. I would also try and put in a progression of fashion, Fashion evolves in time, but the people of Hyrule have been wearing the same weird rags forever. Also put in dynamic windows that you can see out of and light comes threw depending on the time of day. Vast open fields and towns leading up from a hilly road overlooking the sea from white cliffs would be visually stunning. The full Hyrule would be put in, from LoZ and AoL (as shown on the maps they are apart of the same land and connected.) Put in animals such as seagulls flying overhead squaking.

--Gameplay.--
I would obviously have to try and keep the basics of what made the game, the game, so The palaces would probably have the same layout as they did in the 2d game but in 3d and more detailed, probably greatly expanded upon.
But then I would want Link to interact better with the Wiimote. Since the storyline would be like 100 times longer and details, I imagine the gameplay would be too, there would be more in the palaces and more then just the palaces. The scenery would be interactive and things you do would effect events and dialogue in game to many diffrent degrees and even the ending somewhat. Characters would have alot of coversations as in Animal Crossing for example, even NPC's to draw upon that change depending on the time of the game.

--Minigames--
Here, Im a theif.
First I would want to use some of Nintendos other successes, such as the interactive nature of Animal Crossing. With that as a basic feature of the enitr e world like base but in a huge Hyrule world, the game would last far longer with diffrent and unquie events happening at real times of the year, maybe even seasons relating to the real world as in the game fossil diggin, social interactions, The Stores, sending messages to other zelda games over internet etc, though it would have to be a little more grown up and less girly.
Put in ALOT of the standard Minigames, and alot of history to the country for people to uncover.
One complain I here against TP was Castle town just seemed flat. Where as places like Defino town from Mario don't as you interact with the town alot, and adventure in the levels around it many times for diffrent things, the basic principle would be brought in so each town would have several events each to do in it as in Mario Sunshine and thats not even including the minigames.
The final point would be Majorias Mask, Add in totally the dynamic system of MM. The time, (linking to the animal crossing like feature) and people moving around actually doing jobs at certain times of the day with buckets of personality, reasoning, etc.

--Side Quests--
So many it makes MM look baron. Lots. Including a handful of epic side quests that are almost aslong and as interactive as the main storyline itself.

I'd Up the graphics as some people are real stubborn about graphics :S
I'd changes the game play into the other games and changes the spells into items that use action points instead of magic and the items do what the spells do I'd also add some new weapons the sword is just plain boring

Is it really necessary to change anything? I'd rather port it as it is. I don't like the idea of going back and changing games that were already released.

I would definitely have more car chases. I always feel like the Legend of Zelda series lacks the right amount of car chases needed in a good game.

Just kidding. I would probably revamp the graphics, add some more side quests. Make the NPC's better too.

You can't possibly get any better than Error.

I liked jokergirl's suggestions quite a bit.
Lots of sidequests would be good...seeing as there's multiple towns, a lot could be done with the NPCs.

Let fear be cast into the hearts of our enemy.
Let them lose all hope and let their heart sink into the unending darkness.
Let them have no will to live.
Let them feel the power of the Sages of Despair!

Heres my remake:

Add a 25 gigibyte processer with real-time graphics simulation capable of up to 100,000,000 colors on screen at once. Add that with motion-capture cutscenes with as life-like graphics as possible. A system that could mimic real-life motions and images and use a sound processer capable of hearing up to 200,000 vibritions per second.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Code: 3866-7007-9200 Animal Crossing DS Code: 2406-2582-6476
I would revamp the whole game to today's standards and make it easier so people don't get sick of it that easily and would give up at Midoro Palace. (Like me)

I would have the remake on WiiWare.

I would really pump up the production value sound and visuals. have an art style simlair to Twilight Princess to match the hard core difficulty. It would be a 3-D side scroller like Viewtul Joe

offer some new play mechanics like new spells and items to use in and out of battle. But not change it too much.

It would still have the ball busting hard difficulty of the original but more fair like haveing you at the dungeon entrance instead of all the way back at the start when you lose all lives.

add maps and compasses to help the player not get lost.

maybe add some cutscenes with side quests like when Link had to save a kid from a Lizafos to give some story depth and make sure the final battle with Dark Link is the best moment in the game.

then top it all with hidden treasures, easter eggs, minigames, maybe an extra optional dungeon or two.
