As it happens, I'm on the Great Palace on my GameCube version, and getting to the Great Palace, let alone beating it, without getting a Game Over is an immense challenge. Great fun though.
laptop (hooked up to tv, or desktop(if close enough/have long enough cable for it)) + controller = win!

I've done that with many games (my nintendo died a few years ago)

I'll be playing it on the collectors edition sometime next week...I hope to actually play for more than 20 minutes without wanting to put my head through the wall.

I just completed a playthrough last night. The game never gets old to me.
Good luck!

Re: Adventure of Link

I personally love the game. About 4 months ago (relatively the time I lost my DS Lite ) I managed to win an auction that included a Playstation, full boxed set NES (including two controllers, working Zapper, NES console, but no Turbo Controller) which had a wine box in it (the wine box had about 10 to 15 various assorted games including Zelda II). So, now's the interesting part... I won the auction for 5 U.S. dollars.

Re: Adventure of Link

Wow, what a steal. I'll never understand how people manage to win eBay auctions like that. It doesn't seem logically possible, but evidently it is. I ought to start spending more time traversing eBay for hot deals.

Before reading through this thread, I'd entirely dismissed Adventure of Link because of how comparatively different the gameplay formula is alongside the rest of the series. Played it a couple of times on my Zelda Collector's Edition disc, but bit the dust one too many times and proceeded to shun the game for being "too hard". The comments in here have pushed me to re-assess my opinion on the game, however, so I too started a playthrough of the game last night.

I didn't do much thus far, aside from engage a few monsters in combat on the field to get used to the gameplay mechanics. My initial impression is that Adventure of Link is much more enjoyable than I remembered. The monsters really are relentless, as MDK mentioned. Instead of standing around, waiting for Link to approach them, they chase after our hero en masse. (Spiders have proven themselves most annoying so far, though I'm sure that will change next time I play.) This adds an exciting layer of platforming-styled challenge; really refreshing content here, especially compared to the rest of the series. Also, is the battle theme rockin' or what?

Yes, plus it included the ability to jump at the press of a button.

Re: Adventure of Link

I've beaten the first dungeon (Horsehead! lol) and I've found that the armos kinghts are by far the most annoying enemy. You know, the guys who just run at you with their shields raised? It's so hard to do damage because they block up and down, and it takes amazing timing to land a hit. Although, the first dungeon reminded me of Castlevania (graphics wise) which is a really good thing. I'll be playing this game later tonight for sure.

Darknut or Iron Knuckle is the name of those things, and they are quite easy to beat with a different tactic. Jump at it and stab its face on the way down. Hits nearly every time, and knocks it back enough to prevent it from hitting you with a counter.

Re: Adventure of Link

I only reached the fourth temple and never touched it again. I like it, but I hate how you have to level up. Otherwise, you won't be able to stand up against the enemies. Not to mention that the gameplay doesn't help much.

Yeah, I've had a craving for Majora's Mask... maybe it means something!

Re: Adventure of Link

Man, these caves are killing me. I can't get passed a certain portion without getting completely owned by little jumpy monsters spitting flaming meatballs at me.

This game = almost impossible.

Re: Adventure of Link

I loved this game. I haven't played it in a while because my NES likes to spontaneously delete my data after I try to save it. I like the challenge it offers as well as the gameplay. I enjoyed the boss battles a lot (Volvagia was my favorite). I have to say, as good as the Zelda games are, I would like to play one with a combination of the plot depth of Wind Waker and the difficulty of Adventure of Link.

Re: Adventure of Link

Unlike Erosion, I haven't even had much luck with getting through the first temple... I'm assuming it actually is the intended 'first' temple - I just wandered through a cave northeast the Castle and found some kind of dungeon. Had a few uncompromising run-ins with Darknuts, and a corridor full of floating skulls (Bubbles?) pointed me towards the Game Over screen. It's indeed challenging, but not to a fault. I'll probably take another stab later today, employing MDK's recommended tactics on those pesky Darknuts.

As an aside, I love that Link gets taken indoors by young women to replenish his "life". This has been a source of many a Zelda joke, so it was great to finally see some of this humor in its original context. There's also the I AM ERROR house, heh.

Re: Adventure of Link

That is the first "palace", as the game calls it. Took me a good 10+ attempts before I made it through there. I love how the game counts saving and quiting as a death, lol.
