Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I use to play the old NES with my entire family (except for my younger siblings). I remember one time when we were playing Super Mario Bros. we use to leave the system on before going to church so that we didn't lose the level select bonus. =p

When we bought LoZ (sometime in the Mid 90's for like $1), we use to all take turns playing Zelda, and we eventually beat both quests, the only help being a nintendo power? (I think that's what it was, because if I remember correctly, it gave a guide to beating the first 4 dungeons or so...)

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

Yeah, I'm 29 got my NES in Nov. of 87 and got LOZ and mike tyson's punch out! for christmas that year. Funny thing is I never beat either game till last year on the WII VC. Old NES games were difficult I could never find the right path to ganon back then, still have yet to beat iron mike, well I guess mr. dream now but whatever.

I spent countless hrs. on both of those games back in the day, beating both many times. I've played LoZ nonstop since '87. And when I picked up the Wii the 1st game I VC'd was PunchOut. Classic.

Talking Nope

I wasn't born then. But some of the most popular classics for the NES I have played.

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I was two in 1987, and my parents didn't have anything to do with video games. However, once I got a NES in 2000, LoZ was the first game we got for it.

Unfortunately, I didn't even exist in '87, so I will never get to know the feeling of playing the series since the beginning. :'(

The 80's were certainly a great time to grow up in! Such an amazing era to be a kid! Some of my fondest memories are from playing the NES and Zelda!

Yeh, ive got good memories of the early 90's, far to young to remember the 80's but it must have been great, i mean there was such great songs at the time not to mention the movies as well the arcade games.

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I remember picking out LoZ as a birthday present when it first came out, I had no idea what it was, but I wanted it because it was gold.

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I find it pleasantly surprising to find so many relatively new gamers (I played LoZ in '88 when I was 4) are such major contributors to ZU. It makes me happy inside to know that not all young gamers today are only into Madden, Halo and GTA.

My dad kind of took over my LoZ game and made a map of the overworld on a large piece of graphpaper where every square in every screen is represented - which means that yes, he drew every rock and bush and labelled the ones that can be bombed or burned. I colored the ocean. On the other side he made a map of Ganon's Tower. Is anybody interested in seeing it? I might be able to find a pic...

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I wasn't born just yet, so my blunt answer is no.

I played it, howewer, the first time at the age of four. It was the year... (wait, gotta count..) 1992 I guess. It was one of the first times I ever played, as I was very young and and as NES was relatively "new" thing in Finnish homes at that time. (Yes, everything came/comes here soo late.) It really can be called "love at the first sight".

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I was four when it first came out. I don't remember much when I first started playing it. I did enjoy the game very much alongside with my other collection of NES games including Super Mario Bros, Rampage, Rygar, Blaster Master, and much more.

Re: Anybody else played LoZ IN 1987?

I'm 26 years old....
My parents bought our family the NES bundle back in late 1988... I remember because it came with the cartridge bundle that had Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet.

My parents were hooked on the NES, and so was I. I remember a vivid visit soon after to the local Toys R Us store, and my parents bought two more games. One was Tetris... and the other game?

The Legend of Zelda: The Adventuresof Link! YES. My first Zelda game was AoL! I remember being excited on the drive home, that I read the new magazine we just picked up. Nintendo Power! It was the issue with TMNT on the cover:
Nintendo Power 006 - TheConsoler
So that was back in Jan/Feb of 1989.

I remember that we all loved AoL so much, that my parents went out soon after and bought the original LoZ soon after. It was then that it became my favorite game series of all time. The classic music upon start up... gives me chills.

So to answer the question... No. I did not play LoZ in 1987. It however, does not diminish the fact that I am a hardcore old school Zelda player from back in the day... even though I was a year or so late.
