Zelda II question

Why Zelda II: The Adventure of Link so different from the original Zelda and the following games in the series? Does anybody have any clue who came up with the idea of a side-scrolling Zelda with some many differences from the original?

But it seems that it was something Nintendo had done months earlier with Super Mario Bros. 2 in the U.S.

I don't know who came up with that, but it's the reason the rest of the series is like the first.

After it didn't go so well, Nintendo resorted to slightly improved remakes. For example:
ALttP -> LoZ with better graphics and 3D elements
OoT -> ALttP with better graphics and actual 3D
TP -> OoT with better graphics and nothing else

Well it is a good thing AoL came out then.

I actually like the game...it reminds me of a GBA Zelda(before you say it came out on the GBA too...wellI think you know what it means).

Why is it different? Because its Nintendo. Nintendo has always been about doing new things just to see how it would work. And Zelda 2 worked.

It's different because Nintendo wanted to make a bigger change from the first to the second. Apparently, back then, they thought a side scroller Zelda was the newest and best thing after the first one. But what really ticks me off about that game is they set up the battles as random battles, so that you have to hope to avoid the monsters, or move out of the way fast! Such is the price of good gaming....

Yeah, most people give up at that point because they don't take the time to level up. To get past that point, you should have all three stats at about four or five (eight is the limit). It makes a dramatic difference, trust me .

^indeed it is, and I can think of only 2 times that a Zelda games direct sequel was exactly like the previous game. Those two would be the Oracle games and the Four Sword games (not MC) Just look at how different MM, LA, PH are.

Also, thanks to Zelda 2, we now have a lot of things in the Zelda Universe that we would not before, such as Magic Meters, three pieces of the Triforce, various enemies, great swordplay and more.

It also IMO present one of the best incarnations of the country, and took care to chart where the original game took place on bonus maps, its the single Hyrule I most like to see return.

Brings back boring memmories

I've never gotten past the 2nd temple just because it isn't as fun as the others, but I think I might play it later....
