Aganhimn: an alter-ego, or a new body?

One constantly debated theory is that wheather Aganhimn was merely a disguise, or a man posessed by Ganon. I beleive that he was posessed, but I'd like to hear your thoughts?

Remember: Ganon was trapped in the dark world. Wasn't Agahnim his pawn and only contact in the light one?

no in the end of alttp when you defeat agahaim or whatever he says that you have defeated my alter-ego. so obviously gannondorf was that but it was sort of like a comparison of pig gannon to dark lord gannondorf, same person different form

I looked up the word alter ego, and it can be both. I thought about making a thread about this to see what the common belief was, and an alter ego can be the same guy in another guise, or a good friend.

So Aghanim could be another person working for Ganon, or part of Ganon in the form of someone else.

I think in the game, after you defeat Aghanim a bat comes out and goes inside the temple where you find Ganon. So I think the game indicates that part of Ganon escaped the Dark World and possessed another person.

I think that he was possessed by Ganon. It fits. Ganon is the main evil guy, so he wouldn't want Aghanim to steel all of the glory.

I think Aghanim was the same person as Ganon, but his form had been changed to look 'normal'. As said above, Aghanim does say " You have defeated my alter-ego" which does prove that it's someone in disguise, and who else but Ganon?

It could be that Aghanim had a alter-ego

I think Ganon is manipulating him. He is just another person used by Ganon to accomplish his goals.

I think if Ganon wanted to kill Link he'd want to do it in his own form so he possesed Agahnim to maybe test Link and see just how strong he was for when Ganon battled Link himself.

Though if he could have killed Link he probably would have. Even if it wasn't in person. It would get rid of the threat quicker and leave the rest of the dungeon bosses and monsters intact to be used. He wouldn't have let Link go. That would be like giving him more weapons to fight him with, and almost sealing his fate. He would easily be defeated by a stronger Link. He wouldn't just assume he could beat link would he?.... maybe he would...

I believe that Agahnim and Ganon were the same person. Remember, Ganon wished on the Triforce to let him rule both worlds. When Agahnim disposed of the King of Hyrule and the Seven Maidens, he technically was the ruler of Hyrule, even though he never got to destroy it. I take it that Ganon managed to incarnate himself in Hyrule thanks to the Triforce.

For me, I pronounce Agahnim A (as in apple)-guh-nim (as in them). When I say his name quickly, it sort of sounds like A Ganon, as in an incarnation of Ganon.

Finally, though alter-ego has two meanings, Ganon's spirit rising from Agahnim's corpse seems to be saying that the use of alter-ego in the matter was that of being the same person.

Are you saying that Ganon managed to kind of put his spirit/soul in Agahnim with the power of the Triforce as his way of getting to Hyrule?

If he could do all that why couldn't he just go there himself?

No, I'm saying that Ganon made a body in Hyrule that he could control from the Dark World, and took on the guise of Agahnim through it. Agahnim never was a person--just a disguise of Ganon.

As for the Triforce, in ALTTP it actually appears to be weaker than in OOT/WW, so that's why Ganon couldn't destroy Hyrule, was sealed, and then killed by a ToC-lacking Link. If Ganon and Agahnim are the same person, then the Triforce can be used to back the arguement, while at the same time not give Ganon enough power to just break the barrier with no need of happenings in Hyrule.

Fixed .

I haven't played the game in forever (I want to though, so badly ), but I remember this: After you defeat Agahnim, a bat flies out of him and into the Pyramid of Power, where Ganon is there waiting. That's enough proof for me to say he's an alter-ego.

I think Aganhimn was an alter-ego, simply because if he was a different person, the game probably would have, at least a little bit, gone into some detail about that and his past of who Aganhimn really was.

I also think that, because almost every major Zelda character tends return in some other game.

First of all, I forgot how to spell Agahnim. Secondly, I interpreted that as Ganon's spirit leaving Agahnim's dead body.

Hardy proof.

I kinda figured that. That's why I always check with the main site first.

I understand, as I realized it could be interpreted either way. It is just one of those mysteries surrounding the series.
