Legend Of Zelda: Adventure Of Link definitely grants more satisfaction when you beat it, eventually. And it was basically a huge achievement when you had beat it.
On the other side, Legend Of Zelda was a classic and yet the source of the Zelda series.

I can't choose, so I will treat them equally.

I'm going to go with Mithos here, they were both good games. They're both also different styles so it makes it a bit harder to compare. Graphically, adventure of Link was better, gameplay wise, adventure of Link was deeper, story wise, adventure of Link had more of it...Adventure of Link is a technically superior game but it strayed far away from what made Zelda what it is today so I can't really say which I like more.

I like the original LoZ best, but AoL is way more satisfying.

If you twisted my arm and made me choose I'd pick LoZ simply because it was the original that started it all. But both are great and deserve way more credit than they get on these forums.

I personally think that Zelda 2 is actually a lot more fun than Zelda 1, as it's more action-based and it has that kewl level-up system, but that's just my opinion.

Adventure of Link for sure because it's a lot harder!...shouldn't there be a poll on this?

Correction, AoL is probably the most cast out title in the whole series. Everyone knows of LoZ and most can appreciate the game, no matter how primitive it is.

I like them both, but I do preffer number 1 more, since it is closer to the whole basic genre. #2 reminded my of Gargoyl's Quest for GB.

I imagine that since I've been playing AoL since the Collector's Disc saw its debut and I still have yet to put a real dent in it, I'll have much more satisfaction when I complete AoL.

I think The Legend of Zelda is more "njoyable bcos" it gives more of a sense of "accomplisment" because it wasn't frustrating, therefore being a more enjoyable experience. Oh, and because it was a better game in all other aspects, as well.

I find LoZ to be a far more playable game tha AoL. I understand people appreciate the challenge that AoL poses, but it really felt more like a chore than a game. Since finishing it once, a fair few years ago, I've had no interest to go back there, and neither has Nintendo, realising that the original formula was far superior, and took that direction with the next game, Alttp.

I like AoL alil more than I do LoZ...

2) because its quite a bit harder to play

I haven't played Zelda 1 yet, though I did have loads of fun with Zelda 2. And judging by the looks of it, I think that I will enjoy Zelda 2 more anyway because of its advanced combat system and great sense of accomplishment. I might change my mind once I actually PLAY Zelda 1, though.

The Adventure of Link, if I had to pick one, simply because of the greater sense of a "living Hyrule" that you get (for the first time in the series, but certainly not the last)...but only by a *very* slim margin over the original Legend of Zelda.

The one balances out the other, in my opinion, and the series is all the richer for it. They're the foundation of the entire franchise, inviolate. Remove one, and the greater whole suffers.

Tough call. LoZ is easier to go back and play again for hours, because you can just wander around and look for new bomb spots and whatnot. Personally I like AoL more, but it is more linear, and difficult, so once you start playing you have to be ready and be patient. I like the world in AoL and story more, so I'll stick with that.

What you said about The Adventure of Link's world and storyline is why I myself prefer that game by a smidge over The Legend of Zelda. Hyrule suddenly gained an exponential amount of depth with the introduction of towns and castles, to say nothing of the instruction manual's historical backgrounding for the player, which widened the world outward to then-unseen scope.

That said, The Legend of Zelda *does* have an epic story (in fact, I would stack its storyline up against OoT's or TP's any day...it more than holds its own), but it's the deep, living world that Zelda II boasts which makes it the superior of the two games, in my estimation.

They're both quite horrible IMO.

But Zelda 1 is more classic and a lot better.

The second quest to Zelda 1 made it more challenging than Zelda 2, and to me its more fun.
