I noticed that on the official zelda.com Zelda 1 FAQ, it says you can't beat the game without picking up the wooden sword. However, in one issue of NP, they said to 'try and beat the game without picking up the wooden sword'. I find this rather akward.

Re: Something Rather Strange...
You can beat every enemy, beat every puzzle, right up to the final boss without the wooden sword. You can't, unfortunately, beat Ganon without it
. So, you can try to beat the game (Bar Ganon) without it, and Brag about it afterwards, because it is quite an achivement- but at the same time you can't beat the game without it. Meh.

Re: Something Rather Strange...
Well, you could pick up the Magical Sword before Level 9, and then only use it four times against Ganon, meaning every single swipe would have to hit. That's about the least number of times you can use the sword and the most "swordless" your quest could be. Anyone who can get to Ganon on a swordless quest, though, is actually recognized as beating the game. Although you can't get to the Triforce, reaching Ganon is as much as you can do without the sword. By reaching Ganon, you have completed the swordless quest. I know, I said the same thing three times. Anyways, anyone who can do that is an amazing player.
Oh, and as to why they said that, it's probably one of their jokes. They had something similar for playing as Luigi in Super Mario 64 and getting the Triforce in OoT. It's just a way they can make you play an old game that you really don't need a reason for to play. You can just play LoZ for no reason at all. Like Forrest Gump and how he ran for three years across America.

Re: Something Rather Strange...
Very hard to do it, though.
You could use bombs to get some extra hearts and the White sword. Wonder what happens if you try to get the Bouken afterwards... Wait a moment! To get any bombs, you have to kill enemies, so it should be impossible!

Re: Something Rather Strange...
Without the wooden sword? o_o. Oh, wow. I gotta try that some time. But the reason I like Zelda is because of the swordfighting, so I probably won't do it anytime soon.
As for the issue of whether you can do it or not, you probably can. But, as already said, you could probably only GET to Ganon without it, much less defeat him. |

Re: Something Rather Strange...
I think you can't because to pick up money or other Items you need to kill enemys and if you can't get money you can't buy other weapons that you would need to have to be able to get around using the wooden sword.

Re: Something Rather Strange...
If you have the bombs, those should work. Or dry up your wallet and use arrows. Are you sure you're playing LoZ? Moldorm's are fairly easy -_-' they're slow and don't all they can do is run into you. Also, a tip. After beating Level 3, when you get the stepladder at level 4, you have to go back and get the wand to beat gleeock. The wand and the swords are the only weapons that work on him.

Re: Something Rather Strange...
Wait a minute here...How did he get money??When you get bow you need to purchase arrows and you need to kill enemies for bombs..So how do you do it?
If anyone does it they're just amazing...I think its hard doing it with a sword in the first place! |

Re: Something Rather Strange...
I think this thread has come to an eventual stop. Inch by inch, aren't we discovering the real difficutly of playing the game without the Wooden Sword? To get the White, you have to get 5 hearts and beat that one centaur looking guy at the waterfall. To get 5 hearts? Bosses, and other ones in the wilderness. To beat a boss? Two words. WOODEN SWORD. I have no futher comments, your honor.
