Lightbulb Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

I've beaten ALTTP a million times, and never once have I seen an instance of any links to the past or going in to the past. The dark world is just another world, another version of the regular version, it's not the past. Why the hell is A Link to the Past named A Link to the Past ? ? ?

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

Hmm good question! Maybe the title is more a reference to old incarnations of Link as opposed to Link actually travelling through time?

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

It's a link to the future game OoT...which takes place in the past. But the makers probably were refering to how Ganon was re-emerging after being trapped for so long. He targeted The sages daughters (the Links) and needed to get rid of one more link (THE Link) before he could get to Hyrule.

I think OLd-School Link probably has the right idea.
Personaly, I always thought "Triforce of the Gods" sounded cooler.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

It's because aLttP was a prequel to the first two games. It was a 'link to the past' of the first games.

The title refers to OoT and the imprisoning war. Ganondorf was sealed in the sacred realm, thus the evil was sealed inside. Apparently, somewhere along the line the seal gets weak and it needs fixed.

The links to the past are the descendants of the Wise Men (Sages). Ganon needed them in order to get free of the seal or something.

Rather than listening to everybody's intepretations about the imprisoning war and how it relates to the Ocarina of Time when the damn game wasn't even a twinkle in Miyamoto's eye, the real reason is simple. The translator has said on numerous occasions that he called it A Link to the Past because he thought it was a cool title, which it is.

It was called A Link to the Past because it takes place before LoZ and AoL and was made right after those games.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

It's called that because I feel that the Dark World is the Light World hundreds, maybe thousands of years earlier. So the portals that go to the Dark World are actually time portals. Wow, did I just make that up? Holy crap, that was good!

Wiredbilly is correct. The guy in charge of localizing LttP, Dan Owsen, arbitrarily changed the name because he thought A Link to th Past sounded "cool." There is no deeper meaning.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

I think the title "a Link to the past" has two meanings.1: it means that a hero called link goes to the past. And secondly "alink to the past" also means that there is actually a link to the past, it means that there is a link between the present and the past just like I, Link said.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

So basically, "A Link to the Past" was chosen just because it sounded cool?

Well, it does have a cool ring to it, though lacking meaning.

Indeed, "Triforce of the Gods" is still cooler.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

Stupid people cooming up with all this other crap, when will you learn that its just a game and the story only happens in the game, not spanned over on special editions between games. If you want to make crap up do it in the fan fiction.

Re: Er--A Link to the Past? I don't get it..

I believe that the term "Link" in the title is referring to the hero of the game (where did that name come from, anyway?). Link is the last descendant of the knights who fought to keep the sages safe as the sealed the portal in the past. Link, who is an ancestor to those knights, must do the same thing that they did in the past; keep the sages safe and prevent ganondorf from opening the rift between the worlds and crossing to the light world.

Yes, I did read wiredbilly and lord-of-shadow's posts, but do you think the reason that Dan Owsen chose that title is because it pertained to the story so nicely?

To represent the "Link" between the player and the game.
