Ah...the old man who is "selling bombs" is actually the old man who gives you the bomb upgrade. XD It's 100 Rupees, so I'm pretty sure that's the one you're talking about.

And yes! Do get the Blue Ring. Maybe that's why you're having such a hard time with Blue Iron Knuckles.

Well, alright I'll try that.

Does the red potion act like a bottled fairy?

Yes, except it won't revive you if you lose all your hearts. It counts for TWO potions, so if you drink your red potion, you'll still have a blue potion, and both of them refill your hearts completely. Very handy.

If there's a buttload of them, a bomb or two (sometimes three) will have a good chance of each getting at least ONE (though usually more), especially if you place on in a spot that two or more are heading towards. Once they start to decrease in number, you should switch to using the sword since you won't have as good a chance of getting one with a bomb. You should really only use bombs if you find there are too many to dodge while attacking with the sword.

The sword doesn't work on Dodongos.

I was talking about the Darknuts. For Dodongos, IIRC, bomb them to death and then backtrack through the dungeon, killing missed gibdos or whatever's easy to kill. You should get some bombs, and then you go and finish the Darknuts.
It gets easier once you can carry more bombs.

I guess so, thanks.....

By the way, is it possible to get the Hammer in AoL before Midoro Palace? Honestly, I hate the idea of having to constantly travel through caves just to get to tbe southern swamps.

Yeah, after the first palace, you can go get the Hammer. But remember to level up! Death Mountain is a tough place.

So I'm guessing that you have to cross the water in the Water Town. Don't you need something special for that?

Edit: Dang computer, I forgot that I already posted. Dang it.

Re: Official NES/SNES Zelda Gameplay Help

What I did, is to not defeat the bosses. Defeating each one is a guaranteed level-up so it's better to do that late. I leave the dungeon after I get the item from each one. I leveled up by killing the skull, called Bubble. It takes many hits to kill one but it's 50 points. In some dungeon areas, after you kill one you can scroll the screen back and forth to keep making them to reappear, so a lot of the leveling can be done on one spot. It's a lot of button mashing but it isn't so when you learn the downward thrust. You can finish off the last 6 level-ups, one from each boss.

Actually, it DOES tell you what level you're on. For example, on your Magic level, it says something like MAGIC - [level number], so you'll know where you are. :]

Yes, you need to talk to a certain someone in order to get across the river. Talk to everyone in town for clues as to what you should do. You might have to talk to certain people twice or three times to get the info that you need.... ;D

Interesting. But I prefer to battle the bosses before moving on, or else I might forget about them. :/

Hmm, I wonder how much I should level up this time. Oh well.

Re: Official NES/SNES Zelda Gameplay Help

Well if you are close to leveling up, just turn around, go fight some enemies, level up and go back. you wouldn't believe how often I do that in RPGs.

Don't call it a cheat tho, just a benefit or something.

I die often to stronger enemies, and I have to get 700 exp now or something. I can't live off of Gels and Moblins forever.

Try looking for P-bags. But remember! Don't get a Game Over or else you'll lose your experience points, and the P-Bags won't be there anymore.

Re: Official NES/SNES Zelda Gameplay Help

Sorry for the double-post, but I'm the last person who posted on this and I have a question, so...

I'm playing TLoZ's second quest right now. I know that the dungeons and shops have changed their locations, but does that also mean that the pieces of heart aren't where they used to be? I was all ready to get some PoHs that only required bombs, but it seems they aren't there anymore... Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Yep. The Heart Containers and Swords moved too. Half of the money places are still in the same spots, though.
