Do you realize how quick Nintendo could put together an awesome Alttp-style game? I think it would be the perfect thing for "old school" gamers as they wait for Zelda Wii, released on WiiWare probably? (don't get me wrong, it won't be rushed, it just won't take years and years to come out)

I think it would be a good idea, just make sure it has an epic storyline

Pretty much my question is, would you want an older-styled zelda game to be released?

Yes, I miss that old 2D-graphic, now they're doing 3D-games on the Handhelds too. I don't dislike games such as Phantom Hourglass, it's an interesting and new idea to use a pen to control Link and it's good to have some variation on the gameplay.

But, yes, it would be nice if they made another 2D-game, like the graphic in A Link To The Past which they've only used once, or something else that they haven't used before.

While it would be great to see, Nintendo are not the only gaming company, and I doubt they would make a 2D game, whilst the technology available can make 3D.

They really can't compete while they 'go backwards' in graphics.

It would be like Mega Man 9. But Zelda. I firmly support this. =D I would LOVE a brand new LttP style game. <3

I think they should release it on a cartridge aswell!

I agree. I want to see some new 2d zelda games. I hope they have not become extinct.

While it might be interesting, it'd probably not be a very good idea financially speaking. Nintendo already has heavy competition, and 3D games are going to sell better and faster than 2D games. I mean, the newer 2D games were great, but it's not like they were record-breaking titles. I think it's best to just focus on newer technology.

Maybe it'd be alright as a WiiWare title or something.

Not necessarily. Most people today actually want to see more retro games brought back. They may not sell well with the vain groups who only want graphics, but to those who are actually into games for the play value would definately jump on it. I think they are focusing too much on competing with the other consoles and making games that are meant to combat competitors instead of making games that their fans really want. Either way they make money, but if they do what their fans want, then they will gain many more loyal followers and might earn more from it.

"most people" are actually non-gamers, hence Nintendo's betrayal of its core gamers and brown-nosing of casuals. Yes, there are plenty of veterans who'd like to see a retro game, but many, MANY more people who want some amazing 3D game, hence the creation of things like Family Circus and Wii Fit and Twilight Princess.

It's all about competition and reeling in new gamers. Unfortunate, but Nintendo's already made this very clear, especially at E3.

Like I said, WiiWare could be a good opportunity to please the vets.

I think there is a new category of gamers developing though. Just like companies make sports games, or fps games to fill those categories and satisfy that customer base, Nintendo should start going into the retro market for the old school group.

Just because they have a division that caters to old style games, doesn't mean they have to stop with their 3d games. infact, having both would increase the companies marketing power because they are appealing to a much broader base.

Im sure they won't do that, but I believe it would be a good marketing tactic on their part, especially since they are the only one of the 3 companies that can actually claim to have anything retro or worth remaking. sony and microsoft don't have anything that can be considered "classic".

That's what we've been saying.
It doesn't even need a new engine or new graphics or anything- just new content. It would be awesome.

On an unrelated note, does this picture fill anyone else with joy? Something about it is just so... new and old at the same time. This is what DS Zelda should have been.

While it would be nice to play a LttP/LA style game again, i doubt it would happen. At least the handheld Zeldas still have the 2d gameplay to it.

Oh and btw I know its wishful thinking but is that picture for a 3d remake of LoZ from some indie group or is it just an artist having fun?

2D is awesome, but honestly it will only appeal to the retro loving gamers and Nintendo right now is tending to the much younger crowd latly...

Hidden in the context of "everyone's game" is: "The more people that play games the more money we get. Thus, screw the long time fans."

a game like that would be god becuase I loved ALttP and think that the button style controll for the hand held is better than the touch screen controlls. If tyhis were a wii ware game I would definetly buy it.
