The Original Zelda was just perfect

The very first Zelda game was just perfect. Usually I find something to complain about for a Zelda game, but not this one. Here's a list of all the great things about this game.

1. Good Graphics - For a nes game it had pretty good graphics. You could tell what the objects are and it used some nice variety of colors.
2. 9 Dungeons - There's plenty of dungeons in this game.
3. Ability to Skip Around - One nice thing about this original zelda game is you don't have to beat the dungeons in order. I so loved this!
4. No Useless weapons - Not a single useless weapon in this game, unless if you consider a boomerang to be useless but I sure don't.
5. No Password needed - A lot of those games that take a while to beat require a password, but not this game.
6. 3 Saves - I don't know any Nes game that let's you have three different saves.
7. Secrets - I sure love secrets, and this game has many.
8. Two Quests - This was truly amazing! You don't just get one game, you basically get two.

I could go on, and on about how perfect this game was, but I won't.
What did you think about this first game? Was it perfect, or did it have flaws?

Re: The Original Zelda was just perfect

I have been in love with LoZ ever since it came out. I spent countless hrs back in the day and still do playing this game. It has been at the top of my list for 23 yrs!! And I don't see it coming down anytime soon. I love the other games in the series(besides MM), but nothing compares to the original in my opinion.

The Famicom version of Metroid did due to the disk add-on. The password system was just in the NES version (Japan just loves ripping us off, don't they?)

But yes, the game is great. Not my personal favorite Zelda, but definitely up there high on the list.

Good graphics for an NES game? Those graphics were **** for an NES game!

Have you ever looked at Mario 3? The Contra series? The Megaman series? The Castlevania series? Kirby's Adventure? BattleToads? Wizards and Warriors? Zelda II?

It may have had good graphics for when it came out on the NES, but the system could do way better.

Re: The Original Zelda was just perfect

The graphics may not have been the best they could have been *cough* Windwaker *cough*, but I'm not complaining, because the game itself was really good. To me that more than made up for the lack of excellent graphics.

Re: The Original Zelda was just perfect

The original Zelda was just amazing for its day. I really enjoyed free-roaming, and it's pretty cool that the game introduced overworld music to gaming. Having a second quest was a big bonus. Gamers got much more than their money's worth with the game. I'm one of those who think this game needs a remake, though I have a feeling that its greatness would be destroyed in the process.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally don't think the graphics were as good as they could have been. If you'll note my sig. you'll see my point. The graphics of both the Origional Zelda and Windwaker could have been better, but the gameplay redeems it.

The first zelda opened the horizons of the series... and it had decent graphics for the era... at least in a playable degree... so, it surely reccomended to anyone... hehe...

Re: The Original Zelda was just perfect

I loved the game, though the dungeon music gave me the creeps. Also, hearing the growling and roaring of the nearby bosses.... I must admit, I was actually scared to enter the boss's rooms because of it.

It was also the birth of "killer curiosity", when many rebellious gamers learned it was a bad idea to strike a helpul old man with a sword.

Overall, it''s my 3rd favorite, behind ALttP and OoT.

Re: The Original Zelda was just perfect

Great game. But not perfect. The only problem i had in it that there was no way to find out where you had to go next, or what/where to find important items. It had great dungeons, music, overworld, etc.
Awesome game, for its time.

EXPLORE! EXPLORE ! EXPLORE!

That is the foundation of the entire series, captured perfectly in the very first game.

Dude. the game came out in 1987. NES graphics werent necessarily at its high point then. Of course it didnt look as great as games that were released on the NES later on.

Well....err...Magic Wand would like a word with you. In the first quest, its pretty useless. Second Quest its more useful because of the sword eating bubbles. Also the Bible is kinda useless...

3. Yes.
6. It is rather nice that your friends can have files.
7. Uhh, the secrets weren't very many.
8. Yeah, but Quest 2 is a pain in the ass.

Also, my only problem is that there's NO plot going on in between dungeons and there's NO guidance. A little of both is needed for me. :/

Ditto, i did prefer ALTTP's addition. Made it a better game than the original. The original is a great title as well mind. Very detailed for a NES title, which with the low bit available for a console at the time.

The game was not bad, and definitely served as a benchmark for future games.

I'm quite sure the graphics were executed well, with an interesting branch off the series. It's mainly through its artistic values that it is a beauty; not every single detail placed game is needed to have wonderful graphics.

I enjoyed the original platforming much, though I often was lost, and ended up finding the later dungeons. Still haven't found the second yet. Also found it humorous to see how many times you die over the course of the game. I'm somewhere at 33 or so at the moment.
