Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

See, there's another I'd have to contend, I wouldn't pronounce the 'Nar' bit at the end, just end it with a 'Na'

Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

Well if I came across as being in any way pushy there I do apologise, I'm just studying this kind of thing at Uni and felt I wanted to try and apply it to something others can see as well as me. I'm thinking if you have a lisp then it's an entirely different kettle of fish and please do not think I'm saying 'You are wrong' because of that.

Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

I have always said it ah-ka-ree-na, and I will always say it that way. I suppose it changes among people, like toh-may-toh/toh-mah-toh (saying "tomato") and stuff like that.

Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

Don't forget people, that a lot of the different pronunciations will come down to local accents from the areas we are from (As stated earlier by AEF Link, sorry mate only just noticed), I notice a lot of 'ah-carina' coming from the Americas, whereas Brits seems to be sticking more to 'Oh-carina'

Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

I used to pronounce it Oh-ka-re-na, then I remember hearing it said Ok-a-re-na on G4, so I started saying that instead. Ah well, tomato tomato.

(You were supposed to read that last line as toe-may-toe toe-mah-toe. If you didn't, it doesn't make any sense and just looks like a have a fascination with produce. Which I do, but that's neither here nor there.)

It's not 'obvious' by any means, potato, tomato and data, just to name a few, can be pronounced differently by different people, and each think themselves correct.

I actually pronounced it Day-ku at first, but I misread it. Now I pronounce it Deh-ku.

Re: Somthing I've always wondered. How do you pronounce Ocarina?

I have always said 'Ah-ka-re-na'

I always figured that is how, mostly because my friends older brother gets all angry when I miss pronounce words like that. Because he never corrected me, I never questioned it.

"Ah-kuh-ree-nuh." Long O at the beginning just sounds wrong to me.
