ALttP "Parallel Worlds" rom hack

I recently found this... if you're a huge LttP fan you've gotta check this out.

In December of 2006, this group finished a project that took several years:
they succeeded in hacking a LttP rom and making an ENTIRELY new game out of it.
It's called "Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds"
Home Page
You can find more info as well as a 5 min video on this page
Quote:
General changes involve:

* Brand new Overworlds, I promise you won’t find an area which is unchanged!
* Brand new Dungeons, all dungeons are completely different from the original!
* New house indoors and caves, some of these you may find similar to the original game.
* New Graphics, a lot of the graphics has been changed.
* New Screen layout, similar to Ocarina of Time yet not exactly the same.
* Some new music, the original game had great music, these are not to be changed
* New Story, while some events maybe similar to the original game, but it’s intentional.
* A lot of other changes, and surprises!

I've been playing this game for a few days now on my Snes emulator and I've gotta say, the result of this game is spectacular! Even Link has a new look... no more pink hair for the hero! The only problem is it's very tough and I can't find a walkthrough for it.

DISCUSS!

Re: ALttP "Parallel Worlds" rom hack

That looks so awesome!!! I really wish I could play it!
Anyway, if Nintendo finds out about this, something tells me they will sue, as I'm pretty sure that was an illegal hack, and possibly an illegal rom if they didn't have both the system and game in real life and they kept it for over twenty-four hours...
Still, that looks awesome!

It's quite a well known game, Ninty would surely know of it by now. As far as I know, they're quite alright about fan made games. They are not making any money for it, so it shouldn't be a problem for them.

I really want to download it, I've heard really good things about it, but my home computer wouldn't be able run it properly. Apparently, the game is quite the challenge.....

Prof. Farnsworth: Oh my, yes....

I didn't play this much, but I could tell it was good. It just got on my nerves at the beginning because I'd get pretty far (with no sword mind you...yes it's that mean) and then DIE, and for some reason have to do it all over again. So I didn't get far enough for a save to work properly, and haven't played it since. Nothing against the game, just never got back around to it.

You are forewarned...

Re: ALttP "Parallel Worlds" rom hack

I have a couple questions...

First of all, does it feature an engaging storyline with a lot of cutscenes and storyline events sprinkled throughout the game that helps to move the gameplay along?

Secondly, does it feature any sort of new gameplay element that wasn't featured in AlttP besides a new layout? Such as different weapons, different things to interact with, and different kinds of puzzles to be solved?

My third question would be about difficulty, but it seems to be quite clear by now that the game is difficult.

Anyway, these three points summarize my disappointment concerning many of the best Zelda Classic quests. Zquest lacks a cutscene editor, so most of a ZC quest's story lies in a text file (there are sneaky ways to make videos and cutscenes, but its very akward and buggy). Zelda Classic also always features the same gameplay. Although some creators have managed to do novel things with the ZC engine, you really can't accomplish any sort of non-repetitive gameplay without a really deep script editor, which Zquest doesn't have. Many ZC quests are also incredibly difficult. I don't know why they have to be so hard, but there are, and a difficult game gets frustrating after awhile, leaving me with no motivation to play it, especially if it has a scarce story and gameplay I've already experienced many times before.

If this ROM edit shows more innovation the the ZC quests, then I might check it out, but I'd like some more information before I begin to play another disappointment.

This is true.

I'm not sure whether or not Nintendo really IS alright with this. However, I've contacted them in the past about Zelda Classic and other fan-made roms, and they never saw fit to respond. That being the case, I am going to assume (until another mod comes around who thinks otherwise) that this is okay since it's pretty much a fan game and not a one-to-one rip.

The Fishmeister has a good point, too. What's the storyline like?

Shutup.

Occasionally I'll play a game I don't like using savestates on. For example, I have no other means of getting Super Metroid, so I'm playing that right now for the first time, and I'm going through only saving where it's proper. Believe me, savestates are very tempting at this point, but I have willpower. Also, I'm stuck...

Re: ALttP "Parallel Worlds" rom hack

I've played a bit. Figured out how to get the lantern (haha...only had two bombs, so I couldn't kill the mini-boss...you'll see), but I didn't save it for some odd reason. I think I'll go back now and get it. Shame, too, cuz I found out a couple things and got a couple more heart containers beforehand. They sure do give you a lot you can do before your first objective!

Oh, and in case anyone wonders, I own two cartridges for Zelda 3. So, for me, this is all perfectly legal ;0)

Willpower? Who needs that?
Seriously, savestates are the greatest thing since sliced bread. XD
